For All Your Pelican Needs
boblipton7 March 2019
Scrappy is trying to run the pet store. However his baby brother breaks the windows, allowing the animals to escape. While his brother goes into the back room to shoot dice with the pelican, Scrappy tries to deal with the situation.

For a Dick Huemer Scrappy cartoon, this is... well, not "normal" but the way matters proceed. No small children run stores. No pet shop has a pelican. Baby kittens do not torment hounds. That's the humor in the early Scrappy cartoons, before Huemer left and they evolved into a more polished if standard sense of humor. Weird things happened, and they were the funny-because-unexpected variety. Sometimes they were very bizarre and that was very good. Sometimes Huemer ran out of ideas early and that meant a bad second half.

In this one, the situations are middling bizarre all the way through; that makes this a good cartoon.
