Wish You Were Here?
“We’re going where the sun shines brightly
We’re going where the sea is blue
We’ve seen it in the movies
Now let’s see if it’s true”
Septuagenarian pop star Cliff Richard was (typically) seeing life through rose-tinted shades when he starred in Summer Holiday, back in 1963. Most Brits heading off to Europe this month won’t be travelling in an old London double-decker, like clean-cut Cliff and his pals in Peter Yates’s musical. They’ll be joining long queues at the airport; muttering about the extortionate price of petrol; or praying that Eurostar doesn’t grind to a shuddering halt on this side of the Channel.
Above all, they’ll be hoping that their vacation doesn’t turn out to be anything like in the movies. Cliff may have been weaned on a wholesome diet of Elvis and Gidget, but...

year in review parts 1-7
tear-jerkers, music videos, worst films, gay characters and more...
Four Lions
Michael C. from Serious Film here for a few good laughs.
Any future film historians examining the tail end of 2010 will likely mark this year as dark days for screen comedy. Comedy icons Woody Allen and James L Brooks rolled twin gutter balls, while mainstream audiences lined up around the block to watch the star of Taxi Driver do 98 minutes of boner jokes. As if to rub salt in the wound, the Golden Globes saw fit to nominate an inexplicable slate of comedies that were, with few exceptions, unfunny, unexceptional, or in some cases downright awful.
Still, if you managed to look beyond the large pile of high profile duds there were plenty of laughs to be had in 2010. So here for your consideration is the year in comedy. Not the best movies overall,...

His Purpleness, the great Prince Rogers Nelson himself, sent the studio audience of The View into a tizzy yesterday, as he strolled unannounced into that den of edgy klatschdom in order to promote his upcoming "Welcome 2 America" concert dates at Madison Square Garden. He gifted each of the hostesses with a pair of tickets to his December 18 show, a hot ticket indeed, considering the NY shows sold out in thirty minutes over a month ago. The appearance was notable for the sight of co-host Sherri Shepherd transcending the limits of the term "star-struck." She appeared to be "galaxy-struck," or even "human Spanish fly-struck." She blurted out her lifelong desire to make love to Prince, and like that, he floated off into the shadows, a transient apparition who can actually detect the sound of a peaceful bird shedding a tear. I kid. [...]...

Adam Yauch has decided to pick up where the Beastie Boys left off in the classic video for 1986's "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)." Last seen sneaking out the back door of some nerds crib in the midst of a pie fight, Yauch's short film "Fight For Your Right Revisited" will show what happens "after the boys leave the party."
The short, which will premiere at Sundance in 2011, boasts a big cast including Elijah Wood, Danny McBride, Seth Rogen, Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, and Jack Black. Pitchfork points out that this screen shot which was posted on the Beastie's site depicts Rogen as Mike D, Wood as Ad-Rock, and Danny McBride as McA (aka Yauch).
Here's the original video of the song, off the record "Licensed to Ill," with plenty of Spanish fly:...

Carlsbad - LEGOs…those colorful blocks that snap together so easily. Many view them as a childhood toy, but they’re serious fun among collectors and adult builders. They can vacation at the American LEGOland. They can get those rare pieces at Lego stores across the country in malls. Lego video games featuring Star Wars, Batman and Indiana Jones are all the rage. Keeping up with what’s happening in Lego is about as foreboding a task as your mother keeping up with your LEGOs.
Joe Meno organizes the Lego universe through BrickJournal magazine. The periodical announces upcoming products, events and how-to articles by top buildings. It’s a coffeetable magazine featuring all the Lego pieces your kids lost under the sofa. The pages are addictive even for someone mildly interested in Lego with illustrations that show how the plastic building blocks can snap into amazing works of art. For...

Activision, unwilling to skate by the holiday season with just "Guitar Hero 5" and "DJ Hero," is bringing one more rhythm game into your already rock-laden household before the year is out. "Guitar Hero: Van Halen" will be releasing on December 22nd, and features the musical stylings of Eddie, Alex and Wolfgang Van Halen along with the vocal insanity that is David Lee Roth. Sammy Hagar is, predictably, a no-show.
The game will follow the trend of "Gh: Metallica" and "Gh: Aerosmith" by including songs from not only Van Halen, but also other groups with similar musical style, including Weezer, The Foo Fighters and Queen.
Here's the full song list for your viewing pleasure:
Van Halen Songs
“Ain't Talkin Bout Love”
“And The Cradle Will Rock”
“Atomic Punk”
“Beautiful Girls”
“Cathedral” (solo)
“Dance The Night Away”
“Eruption” (solo)
“Everybody Wants Some”
“Feel Your Love Tonight”
“Hang ‘Em High”

· The way people live in Spain is much better than in the United States, claims the incredibly wealthy Gwyneth Paltrow, who has not lived like a normal person ever. Duly noted!
· After turning down most of the roles The CW has offered her (including the lead on 90210), Hilary Duff has signed on to a four-episode arc on Gossip Girl.
· Hey, it's the umpteenth bit of viral marketing for Funny People! This one is a stand-up set by "Raaaaandy," Aziz Ansari's loud Dane Cook-alike. We're guessing it's supposed to be not funny.
· Is Max Weinberg leaving The Tonight Show? Yes! Wait, no!
· Mischa Barton and a friend were barred from attempting to enter a nightclub's bathroom stall together, says a British tabloid, which dutifully reports that Barton then spent a long amount of time in the stall by herself and emerged looking "worse for wear." I think we all...

Wisin y Yandel recently made history when La Revolución debuted in the top 10 on the U.S. albums chart, making it the highest Latin album debut in two years. But a few weeks later, Aventura scored an even bigger debut with their album The Last — outselling the reggaetón giants to claim the #1 spot on Billboard's Latin albums chart and #5 on the top 200.
"We're super excited. We have the most loyal fans in the world," Aventura frontman Romeo told MTV News at a record signing last week in Los Angeles. "We're really satisfied with what's happened with this album, and it's just the beginning."
The Bronx foursome pulled out all the stops for the album, fusing their signature bachata with rap, R&B and even Middle Eastern influences.
