Decent family drama.

This is one of the early films i saw as a child and one of the first films i had in my house. A family movie about a happy family that gets sad because of the new daughter in law. This is seen regularly now on Hindi Television soaps, but before that there was this film. Mithun Chakraborty is superb as usual in this movie as the good brother. Shashi Kapoor is only in the first half and does a alright job. Moushumi Chatterjee who gets bullied by the new daughter in law is actually kind of annoying. Her character is so weak hearted and forgiving, i find it hard to believe at times. Shoma anand who plays the daughter in law from hell gives a decent performance but sometimes she goes over the top. The remaining cast are quite good among these are Kader khan.

The first of the series

Ghar ek Mandir was the first movie with a storyline that has been retold a million times ever since. This was also the first movie in which Raj Kiran end Shoma Anand played the roles which they would plat at least another 25 times. The story resolves around Shashi Kaoor, his wife Moushumi, Shashi's 2 brothers Mithun and Raj Kiran and Shashi friends Suresh Oberoi and Asrani. Shashi works real hard to bring up his 2 brothers whom he loves very much. They love him too. His wife Moushumi supports him in life. Shashi works for Kadar Khan -a millowner who is not happy the way Shashi is honest and has him killed. What happens next when Kadar's daughter Shoma Aanand marries Raj Kiran is what the film is about. The film also stars Ranjeeta Kaur, Shakti kapoor, Aruna Irani. This is one of 2 movies (the other being Awaaz) where Suresh Oberoi is not getting on your nerves. The music by laxmikant Pyarelaal is above average with the gem BOLO JAI SIA RAM
