Classic Tamil Comedy
nmadhuk318 August 2006
I watched the movie Thillu Mullu. And then I saw the movie GolMal.I am not going to compare the two as I believe the audience for both the movies are largely mutually exclusive.

The movie is a real laugh riot.Rajini Kanth,to all the non-discerning,is nothing but histrionics. If you thought so this movie is an eyeopener.Classic comic lines delivered effortlessly, rib tickling expressions and crazy acting by the supporting actors(Thengai Sreenivasan and Showkar Janaki)combine to give a real good remake of the original GolMal.

The jokes are all clean(refreshingly so) and though it remains slapstick to some extent,it does not rely on double entendres or risqué situations to evoke the mirth. The music by MSV is awesome again.Showkar Janaki, who is the epitome of tragedy,is surprising in her new avatar.Watch out for the scenes between Thengai Sreenivasan and Showkar Janaki.

A definite recommend for any lazy evening with some murukkus, bondas or filter coffee to munch on.Scores 1354..Out of 10!!!!

Classical Comedy of Errors

Not always a remake can match the original, but this one does! Rajnikanth explored his full potential as a comedian, with a witty role played by Thengai Srinivasan and Sowcar Janaki. This classical comedy of errors is a must watch! And it is evergreen! Brings laughter everytime you see and it never bores you!

Nostalgic and Charishmatic

All the above reviews were told every good thing about the movie possibly, but still I am trying to write up a few.

This movie can be thoroughly enjoyed by any next generation as we have did it already. It stands alone in a Comic genre in Tamil films. Rajinikanth was totally utilized and the director extracted till his last drop of acting essence in terms of streamlined acting. A special mention, Thengai Seenivasan, His acting was so spontaneous and hilarious which is way ahead even now, No one can replace his role as he was at his best. If you see any of Director's film, you cannot see any comedian play a sidekick to the antagonist, though he is an alter of Well known comedian Nagesh, who he admires, resembles in expressing and acting and thinking, which is an important trivia. So Nagesh played a perfect cameo role to set the context for the film. Initially, Rajnikanth was very hesitant to remove his mustache for the role, but as of now, You cannot see a better expressive Rajni in any film which is because of K.B's touch and his clean shave look(Except Thalabathy film). You feel fresh whenever you see this film and you will right away feel amused of its stand out comic performances. I would reckon, this is my most favorite Tamil comedy movie till now.

Laugh riot

It's not often that remakes turn out better than the original. This one does. A copy of the Hindi Golmaal, it has Rajini in a hilarious role. Visu's dialogues and K Balachander's comic genius, topped with MSV's melodious songs, have given Tamil film lovers an all-time comedy classic. Thengai Sreenivasan is in his element. Don't miss it.

Superstar's superb comedy flick
elametly14 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I would consider thillu mullu as one of the best films of Superstar Rajinikanth and a best comedy film of tamil industry. K.Balachander brings both style and humour sense from Rajinikanth. And the film's centre role is Thengai Sreenivasan's role and he gives a flawless acting(especially when he says "udambellam pullarikkudhuppa"). Showar janaki proved in this film that she will be able to make fans laugh also.Dialogues by Visu suits best for the movie.Overall Thillu mullu remains as a comedy flick of Rajinikanth to prove that he not only do stylish and mass films.Guest role by Kamal haasan at the end of the movie is a surprise element.Music by M.S.Vishwanathan adds a positive energy to the movie.

Classic comedy entertainment
ganeshgg-7405220 December 2023
K Balachander's best comedy entertainment and Rajini acted in dual transformation role and he has acted as indran and chandran and his stylish mannerisms in this movie was great entertainment to audience. MSV music is also good. Madhavi was acted as lead female role and songs are also in the hit list. Thengai seenivasan acting was very nice.

Storyline was very simple but story narration was excellent sowcar janaki acting was also superficial and the movie was remade with actor siva and prakashraj recently. It was a milestone to kollywood and kamal also acted in cameo role it was a wonderful journey to all.

The name says it all

Warning: Spoilers
Impersonations,casuistry,naivety... this K.Balachander movie has all the ingredients to send you to convulsions.Iyyampettai Arivudainambi Kaliaperumal Chandran(Rajinikanth) is an exuberant and charismatic youngster in search of a job to meet his needs. Mr.Sri Rama Chandra Moorthy(Thengai Sreenivasan),an old scrupulous and disciplined man distraught with the younger generation, is the managing director of a company and is in search of an employee. Chandran's family friend who happens to be the family doctor of sriram tells chandran to attend the interview and also tells him a long set of rules on how to behave and answer in the interview. Chandran who's highly unfit and opposite to the required qualities, attends the interview and feigns to be an ethical man and acquires respect and job from Mr.Sriram. The interview scene sends you down on the floor laughing. Then chandran is caught red-handed during a football match, where he behaves boisterous in the stands. Here comes the new character Indran(his brother) whom Chandran creates to save him.He says this guy was whom Mr.Sriram saw during the match, and that they are twins with the latter having no moustache. Then comes the spate of lies, impersonations to cover up all his previous lies. The plot then turns complex with Saro,Sriram's daughter, loving Indran and Sriram loving Chandran. Then the movie ends with a lot of commotion with Kamalhaasan making a guest appearance. Coming to acting, Rajinikanth is brilliant as Indran and Chandran whose instantaneous lies greatly amuse the audience.Thengai Sreenivasan is equally good as a patsy. Madhavi has done her part neatly. The best comedy movie i've ever seen.
