Complex Political Game
claudio_carvalho19 February 2007
In 1979, the military government allows the formation of new politic parties. The liberal Senator Viana, under the coordination of the efficient political journalist of the newspaper "Correio da Nação", Carlos Santana (Claudio Marzo), is trying to make alliances to form a new party of opposition to the government. In this period of exaggerated nationalism, Senator Machado accuses the international corporation United Mining of corruption in the process of exploration the iron ore in Gangorra. Meanwhile, he is accused of using the principles of nationalism to deliver the exploration of the mine to the Japan Steel. In this new political environment, the also journalist of the Press Committee Anna Maciel (Xuxa Lopes), who is the lover of Santana, finds in the middle of a dispute of the political Raul Pratis (Walmor Chagas) that wants to associate to Senator Viana, and the strong position against the arrangement of Santana.

In 1979, Brazil was in process of political changing, with the end of the AI-5 and the approval of the "Lei da Anistia" ("Amnesty Law"). Director and writer Alberto Graça uses this political moment to develop a complex fictional story. Unfortunately, there is a great number of characters (Anna Maciel; Carlos Santana; Luiz Fernandes; Sérgio; Garcia; Senador Machado; Senador Viana, Bittencourt; Steiner etc.), some of them visibly inspired in names of Brazilian politicians but the complex situations of the plot are very hard to be followed. The characters should be better developed in the beginning of the film since the viewer listens to names without associating them to the character. My vote is six.
