Porn 'Mad Max' redux
lor_6 May 2011
Perhaps the forgotten porn video BREEDERS should be retitled THE BEAVER, in honor of Mel Gibson's recent comeback effort. It's a stale imitation of MAD MAX, for undiscriminating porn hounds.

Previous IMDb commenter wisely focused on the presence of Gina LaMarca, the only reason I watched this desultory effort. The redhead Penthouse Pet is a remarkable porn performer, stunning in the avant garde video ZAZEL and unfortunately appearing in only a handful of other XXX or X projects. She talks tough and is entertaining in two sex scenes late in the picture. To compare her scenes with those in a Joe Sarno Scandinavian movie with Eric Edwards & Maria Lynn, and call the latter's "the most passionate lovemaking scene in movie history" is not merely a stretch but ludicrous.

The rest of it is crap, largely due to actor/director Brad Armstrong, who later helmed dozens of expensive and generally overrated hardcore videos. He's insufferable as the overbearing villain here, leader of "The Population", some jerks who ride around on choppers or a dune buggy/drag racer in emulation of the Gibson/George Miller classic. His script, a cheap-jack cobbling together of corny ideas from THE TERMINATOR on down, is ultra-poor.

Steve Drake is nominally the star, walking through his non-role as a visitor to 2012 from the future, out to kill Kane (sounds like another bad movie title) and change history. The title Breeders are a dozen folks who are still fertile after a nuclear war as a result of being subjects of a cancer research experiment. The baddies are criminals who survived the nuclear holocaust underground in solitary confinement and later escaped.

Very weak premise (all of the plot is in voice-over narration or spewed out by Drake) has the Population out to kill all the Breeders in order to achieve a Pyrrhic victory of ruling the Earth in its last days -they are foes of "re-population" efforts. A very rushed and frankly stupid ending reveals Drake's true mission and makes little sense, even in the context of the usual Harlan Ellison-style time travel paradox format.

En route to this pointless wrap-up, there are some lousy action scenes, stupid shootouts and other very brief diversions from what is essentially an all-sex video. The dumb costuming and hair styling is typified by Alex Sanders' Conan the Barbarian look, mixing in prehistoric with post-apocalyptic.

Apart from the divine Miss Gina, female cast is wasted by Brad. Biggest star, Asia Carrera, is simply along for the ride, merely complaining and not doing anything until a token sex scene with Drake in the final reel. Kaitlyn Ashley, who I preferred in her earlier pre-bust enhancement roles as an ingénue, looks tired & worn (befitting the crappy makeup and "dirty" styling here) delivering anal sex and given zero dialog or characterization. Busty blonde Dawn Burning (nice moniker) makes a positive impression, while the team of buxom Ruby and Sindee Coxx pop up for an impassioned threesome.

Peter North is in the first reel servicing Burning as kind of a guest star. Once he shoots his usual load, he disappears from the narrative forever, not even established as either Breeder or part of the Population clan. Almost interesting touch (not properly developed by Brad) is what I took to be an in-joke: after their money shots North and Sanders carefully mop up the semen and push it to their partners' vaginas -sort of an "aid the re-population" effort, porn-style.

Picture is shot in and around a decrepit, abandoned factory, giving it production values significantly below those of the Italian-made MAX ripoffs of the early 1980s.

The only element of note here was a "flashback from the future" (you need to watch to see what I'm driving at), that provided structural interest when Drake was recalling his wife he left in the future, cueing an extraneous sex scene. On reflection, this makes no sense whatsoever in terms of the video's original premise.

Where did Gina Lamarca go - please come back!!
trauet10 June 2005
This movie is strange. Its plot is absolutely fictitious. Just think about it: in 2012 all people on earth are dead after nuclear war except for a handful of criminals and a handful of "breeders". The breeders are the good guys, among them the incredibly beautiful Gina Lamarca. The actors run around semidressed in filthy costumes wielding guns and clubs. There is still gasoline for motorbikes, and there is still electrical power. The copulation is the way it often is in adult movies, except for the sex that Gina Lamarca has when she attempts to populate the earth. She is horny and she mates with her partner like most of us like to mate. Ginas copulation compares in intensity to that of Marie Forså and Eric Edwards in the film Butterflies in the most passionate lovemaking scene in movie history. Gina's two scenes are much shorter and very explicit.

The people in this film are beautiful - a real lineup of handsome men and Penthouse Pets. It is passable as a couples' film, and use the fast forward once in a while to get back to or ahead to Gina Lamarca at 57 minutes.
