It's a nice try
TheLittleSongbird6 December 2014
Dietetic Pink doesn't quite work as well as it could've done, but is serviceable enough, a good deal of effort was made and it does show. The animation here isn't particularly great with a lot of the backgrounds looking a little scrappy and while some of the colours are nice others are flat-looking and limited. The Pink Panther cartoons always did have a simple minimal style, which was mostly appealing actually, but from 1976 onwards or so the simplicity veered into simplistic, and Dietetic Pink does fall into that category. The cartoon is never very funny either with nothing standing out, to be fair it is difficult to centre a cartoon around dieting and weight loss and make it funny without exaggerating or offending but sometimes Dietetic Pink did feel too careful. A couple of parts of Dietetic Pink did seem rushed, though the part with the hot-dog and Pinky's resisting temptation while very easy to relate to seemed dragged out at the same time(being repeated three times), and you know the ending is one that you know right from the start. The music while a touch repetitive and not as slinky is very upbeat still and has a lot of energy and the theme tune is a justifiable classic. As said there are some nice colours and the characters are drawn well. Pinky is very cool and has lost none of his likability(though he has been much funnier before), you actually do feel genuinely very sorry for him, and the supporting characters serve their point to the story well. And I did like the idea of the story, anyone can relate to Pinky's situation because almost all of us have been there and some most likely even still are, and it was dealt with sympathetically and remarkably accurately(though as said at times too careful but understandably). In conclusion, could have been done better but it was a nice try. 6/10 Bethany Cox

The Pink tires to lose it.

The Pink Panther mistakenly thinks that he weighs over 200 pounds, so, he shies away from all his favorite food by locking his meals in a cabinet and repeatedly denying hot dogs from a vendor.

You feel sorry for the poor guy, as you feel his cravings going up the roof and his willpower going out the door. You really want a taste of the food and hope the Pink Panther realizes what his real weight is before he starves.

A pretty entertaining cartoon short here and you get to see him have a little run in at a diet diner and with a police officer. But, at the end, alls well ends well for the panther.

This picture hits pretty close to home . . .

Warning: Spoilers
. . . because I worked my way through college typing papers for other students, mostly living in my dorm. My best customer was a girl studying to be a dietitian, and at least one of her assignments turned out to be more than 100 pages long. I think that was the one about food-borne illness, which included a lot of really gross things, such as worms emerging from victims' eyeballs! However, I did NOT see anything of that nature during DIETETIC PINK. Yet there were some really stupid things happening, such as when the Pink Panther moves the entire contents of his meat-stuffed refrigerator to some sort of a wooden cupboard, which he locks, bending and tossing away the key! Even I know enough about DIETETICS to sniff this out as a real recipe for disaster, involving rapid food spoilage, maggots and whatnot. My top typing client nearly failed college when she wrote about "u-n-t-h-a-w-i-n-g" some food item on her exit essay. I think the panther should be flunked out of this film, as well.

Pink Panther Overweight? No!
PaulB-47 July 1999
Warning: Spoilers
"Dietetic Pink" starts off with the Pink Panther going on the scale to weigh himself, but just before he put a quarter in to weigh himself, a man put his briefcase on the scale in order to wait for the Pink Panther to get off the scale. After that, the Pink Panther put a quarter in the scale, and he got angry because thought he weighed 220 pounds! He then had to rush home and do a lot of exercise. Then he went to watch TV, and when he flicked on the remote control, he sees commercials for food. Then he dreamed of something he wanted to munch on because he felt hungry after seeing food commercials on TV. Then he smelled the hot dogs from the hot-dog stand. He then went to get a hot dog, and then he said no. Then he believed that eating a hot dog would not put his weight on, so he went back, tried to get another hot dog, and refused to have one. After that, he was thinking that a hot dog would break the scales, so he went back to try to get a hot dog, but then the hot-dog man spread mustard on the Pink Panther's face and poured all the mustard on him. He then went out to eat at a dietetic restaurant, and only had a piece of bread. He tried to get the bread, but it rolled all the way to the mouse's hole, and the mouse ate it. He then had to rip up the check, and he then got chased by the police officer -- but then he went back on the scale, inserted a quarter, and he weighed only 75 pounds! How did he think that he weighed 220 pounds? The man's luggage weighed 140 pounds, which added to the Pink Panther's weight of 75. At the end, the Pink Panther and the police officer had dinner together.
