Forgotten series from the 70's
Toscaan7 June 2006
I saw this series one time on the dutch television TROS, it was a good story about a boy, named Scott Hunter, of thirtheen years old who is looking for his missing father. The man disappeared after finding a goldmine somewhere in New Zealand, around 1860. Finally Scott finds his father after solving of some obstacles. After the end of this series in 1977, i have heard nothing more about Andrew Hawthorne, who played the title role. I think there are not many peoples who remembers him, even "Hunter's gold" is just a vague memory, which is typical for many forgotten series from the 70's so as "the lost islands", "against the wind" and others.

Loved this as a kid

Just that long tracking shot of the hero making his way along the country track and then the camera sweeps across the mine workings, years later I'd go to NZ and see them still there and it was as if I was back in time once more to UTV on a Saturday morning during the school holidays. A great series and I wish they would repeat it once more, it's themes and story are essentially timeless.
