good, but definately not the original
tiptonj-22 June 2001
This newer versio of Match Game was OK, but it definately lacked the sparks of the original Match Game. Mike Burger tried hard, but couldn't touch Gene Rayburn. I agree that the panel was weak most of the time. They should have changed the questions around too.

What a frickin' car wreck!!

Everyone tries WAY too hard. Even the contestants, who act like celebrities in their own right. Which i'm sure can be blamed on the producers. All of the subtleties of Brett, Charles, Richard and the other revolving talents is lost. And Michael Burger is a complete goof ball with none of the charm of Gene Rayburn. The questions are poorly written and everyone is just trying to upstage everyone else, starting with Judy Tenuta. Not to mention that god awful set! Ugh! If you grew up with and/or are a fan of the original Match Game(s), you have been warned. Even Match Game "90, without Gene, was descent compared to this garbage. What a waste.

The Match was back...for one season anyway...
mattk126 December 1999
The Match was back, but not for long. The format was toyed with too much. 5 panelists instead of 6, 4 which were regulars. The nature of the questions changed too. Many questions led to poking fun at Bill Clinton and male anatomy, and the answers were frequently too explicit for tv. The panel also lacked balance. Vicki Lawrence looked as if she really didn't want to be there some of the time, Judy Tenuta was too loud and frequently upstaged the panel. Nell Carter was a bump on the log. Michael Burger did his best with a weak panel. Michael is not Gene Rayburn, but he had some funny moments.
