Pretentious swill
lor_18 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I've seen quite a few movies by Jack Stephen and was unimpressed. "Forbidden Games" is quite different, in that it pretentiously sets up a mysterious situation (in the vein of "Outer Limits" or "The Twilight Zone" but) ends up an annoying shaggy-dog story, everything explained away in the final two minutes. You can't help feeling jerked around by the boring show.

Joey Silvera wakes up in a fake looking cell, and complains that he's a tourist named Hubie in the line to see the "Johnny Carson Tonight Show", thn going off with a woman and ending up in stir. What follows is a succession of random sex scenes in his cell or in the bedroom connecting to it -apparently Kelly Royce is a sexy woman holding him as her prisoner for some reason, unexplained.

Between the sex scenes, most of which feature an unidentified character played by Ashley Dunn, we are led to ponder what the hell is going on? (identifying with poor Joey). Randy West appears to be Kelly's husband and Danielle Rogers shows up as a horny friend of the family.

There is no logic to what's going on, the dialogue is sometimes contradictory, and Joey's overacting is quite poor. Contrasting him, the other characters seem to be in a daze.

Finally, Royce enters the cell, lies on the mattress and fondles a bewilered Joey, then leaves without having sex with him. He screams: "I'm free! I'm never coming back to California! I'm going to New York to be on "David Letterman"!.

SPOILER TIME: If this was a play by Beckett or Ionesco we would be left wondering what it all means. Instead, hack Jack Stephen neatly ties it all up in stupid fashion: Kelly wakes up from a bad erotic dream (which we've been watching) and there's no jail cell next to her bedroom. Hubby Randy West chats a bit and mentions they should watch "David Letterman" tonight -he has her favorite comic on, one Hubie Pierce. Ouch!!
