In 1987 the Finnish Skopbank acquires Tampella, a troubled company that chief general manager Matti Yli-Niemi refuses to break up. By the end of 1989, Skopbank itself is close to collapse. After a tragedy, Mats Degerö takes charge.
1985, the birth of the Finnish "casino economy". Matti Yli-Niemi and CEO Mats Degerö share the power in Skopbank and make a risky move to take over the commercial bank HOP. Their rival SYP Bank has plans of their own.
At the start of the 1990s, Skopbank has very few friends. Mats Degerö can only lean on his old colleague Asko Ellilä at the Bank of Finland. Economic crisis hits the country and the whole banking system is in danger.
The Bank of Finland now controls Skopbank and many want a share of Tampella. A new government minister Lauri Matintupa has a personal stake in the situation. This will eventually lead to police interrogations.
At the end of 1991, the Finnish commercial bank KOP has a new chief general manager. Heikki Poutilainen isn't a banker, but he's an honest man. His only mission is to try and save KOP. A honest man now has to lie for a living.
