Not a good award show at all

The title "Adult Video News Awards 1993" summarizes pretty nicely what to expect here and I am sure this is not the first edition of the AVN Awards you have seen or come across if you landed on this title page here. The director of these approximately 100 minutes is S. Marco DiMercurio and I have never heard of him before I must admit. No surprise because this award show is now already over 25 years old and some of the people you see on here have sadly died already. This included a musician you see early on, but actually a relative of him became like the regular director of the AVN Awards later and was present basically every year. But now back to this one we got here. Well, the adult film industry was strong enough to have their own award show already back then and not just then, but already since 1984 if I am not mistaken, so this event was basically born the same year like myself. Not sure if I should be proud of that. Back to 1993, of course adult films and the industry were completely different compared to today. It's impossible to draw parallels. You got copies back then still from the dealer you trust as the internet did not exist yet and you could not simply open one of thousands of websites that provide millions of porn videos. As you can today. Now you see I am talking about other stuff again and it is pretty difficult for me to really comment on the actual show, but I will try my best. Definitely the people featured on here were really naughty and not less naughty than the winners today are from this award show that still exists now in 2019. In between we see pretty explicit gestures, but what is even more telling is the great amount of nudity and intercourse we see during these over 1.5 hours. The Oscars handle it in a way when they show us short clips from all the nominees (in terms of acting at least). The AVN Awards 1993 decided to take the path of us showing a really long segment from basically every acting winner, certainly also to promote the winners' films. Well I did not like the approach too much. I mean these clips were way longer than the actual announcement of the awards and alsothe acceptance speeches afterwards and that just doesn't feel right like similarly to how almost every music award show these days is a mess because it is more of a concert than an actual award show. Anyway, these long clips we have here of course also result in the show running a lot longer and dragging. Otherwise, they easily could have finished in 80 minutes. What else? Oh yeah, 90s AVN Awards were definitely much more rock music while today's feel more hip hop. I really cannot say anything about the winners because I have not seen their films and don't know them, except maybe it's kinda surprising to see for how long Randy Spears has been around now. Until a few years ago, he was still acting in adult films, but now he isn't anymore (according to imdb). Besides that, I wonder how the people we see in here perceive their work back then today, if they talk to their kids (maybe grandchildren) about what they did or if it is a bit of a taboo topic if they even know at all that is. I think it's probably a different approach for every actor. Some are open about it and for others, it is a closed chapter. Still, all in all I did not enjoy watching this one too much. Some of the girls were cute, also not all, not even close. It was also not too funny or at least not as funny as recent AVN Awards that were actually hosted by comedians. So the show certainly got better over the years. This edition here is still a big failure I would say, not only because they also messed-up awards-wise it seems. The aforementioned Spears was announced winner of a category while the AVN lists another actor (Silvera) officially as the winner in their documentation. A mess. Don't watch. Even an award show lover like myself cannot find anything positive here.
