Mumbai, March 1 (Ians) Docu-series ‘The Romantics’ pays homage to Sridevi, the iconic Yash Raj Films heroine who made the entire country fall in love with her in the cult romantic blockbuster ‘Chandni’. Actress Rani Mukerji said that every woman wanted to be like the late veteran star.
The late Yash Chopra is seen revealing why he wanted to make a pristine love story for audiences.
He said: “Our industry had reached the saturation point of violence. I said okay, now I’ll do the biggest gamble of my life whatever happens. I won’t make a film with formulas, with calculations. I will make a film which will touch my heart. I started Chandni.”
However, the legendary Yash Chopra’s career was at a low then, having delivered some unsuccessful films. So, it was not easy for him to sign Sridevi, who in her prime was considered bigger than the heroes of India.

India’s Kamal Haasan is a true multi-hyphenate. Beginning as a child actor in 1960, he is one of the country’s most consummate actors with films like “Pathinaru Vayathinile” (1977) “Moondram Pirai” (1982) “Nayakan” (1987), “Thevar Magan” (1992) and “Vishwaroopam” (2013) behind him.
He also produces via his Raajkamal Films International (Rkfi), writes, directs, and runs the Makkal Needhi Maiam political party.
The upcoming “Vikram,” directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj (“Master”) and costarring Fahadh Fasil (“Malik”) Vijay Sethupathi (“Kadaisi Vivasayi”), will be Haasan’s first release since 2018’s “Vishwaroopam 2.” It is produced by Rkfi.
Haasan was at the Cannes Market to launch NFTs based on “Vikram” from Fantico, a digital licensed platform of Singapore’s Vistas Media Capital.
What is “Vikram” about? And is the title an homage to Rkfi’s 1986 film Vikram?
This is not a sequel, but, yes, it’s [about] a man who’s very similar. The film starts differently, its about reminiscing the man and his deeds.

On the last day of the Mumbai Film Festival, I spotted Salim Ahamed, the director of Adaminte Makan Abu standing in a corner all by himself and the temptation to go chat with him (after having seen and praised the film here) was too much to resist. Aware of the problems language may pose, I walked upto him and was surprised when he agreed to spare some time. We were limited by his knowledge of Malayalam only and my lack of it, which prevented this from being a full-fledged interview. Nevertheless, here we go:

Vidya Balan is apparently being lured to play the role of Tamil legend Silk Smitha in a biopic of her tragic life being made by Balaji Productions producer Ekta Kapoor. Milan Luthria, currently making Once Upon A Time In Mumbai for Ekta's company, is slated to direct the big budget movie that could be a career-assuring role for Vidya. It was Vidya's earthy, sensuous performance in Ishqiya that apparently made Ekta feel that she would be perfect to bring Silk back to life on the screen.
Silk's life echoes that of Marilyn Monroe. Coming from a very poor family, she found fame in Vandi Chakaram in 1979. Her career progressed rapidly as she catapaulted to the top of the industry in movies such as Moondram Pirai and Layanam, playing sultry femme fatale type roles that invariably involved the intimation of sex, gangsters, strong women, fast talk and weak men. Her career eclipsing in her thirties,...
