Worth watching for the 3 recognizable names...
Chromium_512 February 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I rented this solely because of Tim Allen, Chris Rock, and Bill Hicks, and as I expected, they were the highlights of the movie. The title doesn't lie--these 12 performers really are comedy's dirtiest. The humor is vulgar, shocking, and totally filthy, but only these three know how to do it right. It also says a lot about the overall quality of this movie that they are the only ones who have anything original to say. The rest of them are all from the school of comedy that teaches if you can't think of anything creative, a bunch of anal sex jokes will do.

Personally, I thought Tim Allen gave the very best performance. He is uproariously funny, and it is hard to believe that he went from doing this to fluff like "Home Improvement" (a good show, but not anything like his early standup). He is the ONLY one who actually had me laughing out loud.

Chris Rock is also good (not great). He is very young here, but he already has his "born suspect" act nailed. He is pretty good for an up-and-coming comedian, and any fan of his should rent this movie immediately.

And, of course, there's Bill Hicks, who outshines everyone else by far (Allen made me laugh the hardest, but Bill still has the better act). How they can include a genius like Hicks with the likes of Stephanie Hodge is beyond me. He was one hell of a comedian, and almost makes it worth it to buy this. Almost.

5/10 stars. Watch it for the guys you know.

Solid.. here's the set rankings (best to worst)

Warning: Spoilers
Bill Hicks (10/10) This is the first full set I had ever seen of Hicks, and man... was I beyond impressed. I had high expectations going into this, since I had heard praise of Hicks' material from comics all over the spectrum. Hicks' delivery was so polished, his timing was perfect. The subject matter was thought provoking, intense, morbid, and most importantly f'n hilarious. Hicks absolutely killed this set, and now this has given me the opportunity to really dive deep into his material (something I should have done years ago, i admit.) (RIP)

Otto & George (10/10) I must admit.. I am biased to Otto & George. I was a huge fan of Otto's appearances on the Opie & Anthony show.. so I knew Otto was conversationally funny with quick one liners, and a fun, mean humor style. This was the first full set of Otto & George I watched, and this was absolutely hilarious. The way that Otto could make the dialogue between him and the puppet George was phenomenal.. unlike any ventriloquist I had ever seen. I was never a fan of these kinds of "puppet acts", but Otto put an x-rated twist on it that was so unique and natural, they absolutely killed this set and I left having even more appreciation for Otto (RIP).

Tim Allen (9/10) I didn't know what to expect from Tim Allen, Home Improvement was on when i was a kid, i knew him from goofy kid movies and being a "sitcom dad". I now have a new found respect for Allen's stand up after seeing this set. His delivery was great, and exciting, Allen's energy fit the bits perfectly. Some of it made me cringe a tiny bit, but I was pleasantly surprised to see such a great set from him. Absolutely killed and to be third on this line up aint bad at all.

Jackie Martling (8.5/10) All these years, i had heard how big of a hack Jackie Martling was, and i never found him to be too entertaining on the radio with Howard Stern. I wasn't expecting much from as I knew he was a "joke teller" instead of the observational monologue type which was never really my thing.. but hell did I really enjoy his set. His energy and delivery was amazing on these old timey jokes, and the jokes were all funny. Edgy, dirty, really great set. Another comedian I found liking so much more after watching this lineup.

Chris Rock (8/10) I've always been a huge fan of Rock's standup, with "Bigger & Blacker" being one of my favorite stand up specials of all time. Now, since I had high expectations this was the one set that was disappointing to me, Rock was young, not as polished as he was 13 years later in the aforementioned B & B special. His delivery was a little rushed, timing was kinda off. Im not a fan of the militant type humor he was going for, doesn't resonate with me much. But I did like most of his material, the Jesse Jackson bit was killer really enjoyed it.

Monty Hoffman (7.5/10) I wasn't familiar with Monty at all. I came away a fan of his after his set. I really liked his self deprecating humor and delivery style, he seemed comfortable doing the set. I would have honestly ranked his set at the same grade as Rock's set, but his corny rap/rhyme act at the end was one of the most cringeworthy bits of the show. Besides that, I think Monty did great and it was cool to find another comedian of obscurity.

Larry Scarano (7/10) This guy has a really interesting set, a lot of morbid jokes, AIDS joke killed. I wasn't a huge fan of his delivery style, but i was impressed with his material I think it was pretty good- above average. Apparently this guy quit comedy, but when this was released Playboy said him and rock were standouts. I don't agree with that, but I would have watched more material from him after this set if I could have found it.

John Fox (6/10) I guess John Fox has some credits to his name, and isn't necessarily a house hold name by any means but I am surprised he's more well known than Scarano and Hoffman. I found his set to be pretty boring, leaning on shock value for humor. A lot of his bits seemed to be rushed and cheap.

Stephanie Hodge (5/10) Not much to say about this set. I guess woman doing crude humor in 1988 was shocking, but i didnt find many bits funny from this and I wasnt very impressed with the "dirty girl" act. Unimpressed.

Steven Pearl (5/10) Again, not much to say about this set. Not many laughs, delivery was pretty lackluster. Can't remember a bit and i just watched this last night.

Thea Vidale (3/10) Another dirty girl act, shocking! Really leaned into the southern angle too I found it to be very corny, as if people in New York where this was taped had never seen a dirty gal from the south who talks about sex for 5 minutes. It was basically stephanie hodge's set without lame smoking jokes, and just an awful delivery. Not enjoyable at the least.

Joey Gaynor (2/10) This guy was absolutely awful. His whole act was doing impressions of music acts and singers. It was almost impossible to sit through and watch this, the only reason I did was to give a fair review and to get to Jackie the jokeman.. I see this guy has lots of credits on here as well which baffles me. I don't know if this guy has an audience, god bless him if he does. But god this was one of the worst sets i had ever seen. I give a 2 for having the balls to go on stage after Bill Hicks, Allen, Otto, and Rock. This guy is a HACK.

It's extremely difficult to get a good lineup of 12 guys like this.. they did a pretty good job doing it i was impressed with this release. Many more people should watch this to see the genius of Otto, Hicks, and Allen.

When snofwlakes didn't castrate freedom of speech
ham-ma2421 November 2020
I highly suggest it because you won't see this kind event anywhere on TV or maybe even newly produced content, as the name implies it's dirty. Each comic had around 5mins to preform and all of their styles were pretty different.

For me personally I rated it that high because it is very dynamic and even though of one or another comic didn't really hit the spot for he, there were those who had me rolling. Also I rated it "that high", because they could express themselves how they wanted and in the way they wanted, instead of being censured.
