The series has been seen in more than 50 countries.
Although production of the series ended in 1998, it continues to be popular on cable networks around the world. Its massive success in India led to co-host Tania Zaetta, who would go on to be a Bollywood star, hosting a series of India-based specials in 2002, and an Indian spin-off series titled Extreme Dhamaka in 2003.
The closing credits include the disclaimer "This programme has no association with any other TV programme or film." This is because the series has the same title as the UK action movie The Final Option (1982) and UK sketch comedy series Who Dares Wins (1983).
A promotion for the series on the US cable channel Game Show Network (GSN) used the tagline "Who Dares Wins: Australian for Game Show". This tagline and promotion were a parody of an American advertising campaign of the time for Australian beer Foster's Lager.
Between November 1996 and November 1998 the series ran to 107 episodes.
