How I Break 90 #1: The Grip (1933)
*** (out of 4)
After a twelve film series called "How I Play Golf," Warner kept Bobby Jones around and started the "How I Break 90" series, which would last for six films. This short starts off with us seeing a couple shots from Jones and then we see Joe E. Brown struggling. Inside the locker room Brown talks about how poorly his game is so Jones offers to teach him by starting off with the proper grip. If you've seen any of the previous series then you pretty much know what to expect. We get a celebrity (here Brown) who can't do anything right and this adds laughter to the short and then we get a lesson from the teacher Jones. I found this one here to be among the best I've seen from either series as Jones appears to be a lot calmer here in front of the camera and Brown offers up some nice laughs. The two of them actually work pretty well together here and help keep the film moving at a nice pace.
