Scary lesson
tvalways27 May 2019
Overall this was great and also makes you think. I related the most to Amy because I'm Asian too. I grew up in the 80s and early 90s. I got all the jeers, jokes, taunts, teasing, songs, etc about being Asian from classmates and even friends. It was seen as not a big deal by them and even me. I didn't realize the racism and hate behind it until I was a teen/adult. I felt the same way as Amy, wished I was white a few times. My schools never did this sort of lesson and it's clear why, this kind of lesson can easily and instantly incite hate, violence, and worse that people may not even realize is in them. It was interesting how the students reacted but I felt a lot of nervousness for the upcoming minutes that it could quickly get a lot worse. A few racial slurs are said too so fair warning.

not impressed

I had to read the book a few weeks ago, and we also watched the film...I didn't really like it, because there are so many differences. Mr. Sumoto e.g. is much nicer than in the book, Amy and Adam aren't a couple, the color game isn't explained in detail and the characters Sue and Hideo are completely missing although my class, my teacher and me think that they are very important for the story, because they show the relationships inside the family Sumoto. If you haven't read the book I think you are not really able to understand the film, and when you read the book the movie is really disappointing. there are too many important parts of the book missing there is no real fix point to see in the film, although the book has a clear fix point, the color game! It is also stupid that Adam and Amy go skating instead of going to the hula dance because I think it is also very important because this is a point where Amy shows her oriental roots.

Loved the book, loved the movie!!!

I read the book when I was in 8th grade. I loved the book!!! When i was writing my book report, I was checking that I had the character names correct, so I came to this website. I found out that there was a movie for it, and had to see it! After I saw it, I found maybe one or two differences between the book and movie- Amy Sumoto's last name changed, but that didn't make a huge difference to me. It is a great movie, I completely recommend watching it! If you read the book and liked it, I completely even more so than before recommend watching it. Compare it to how you saw it as you read the book to make it even more fun!!! So, anyways, if you haven't read the book, I recommend reading it and also watching the movie. If you have read the book, watch this movie!!! It is amazing!!!
