Anything to economize, SEVEN MINUTES IN HEAVEN is a Joe Sarno porn video obviously shot back-to-back with his horrendous sci-fi "comedy" OVERSEXED, using the identical cast. With dramatics reminiscent of his softcore salad days this is the better of the two, but still a drag.
One has to give Joe credit for trying to adapt his winning formula, developed in over a decade and dozens of high-quality softcore movies, to the new & inferior medium of hardcore shot-on-video. This one is about female jealousy, with NYC roommates Siobhan Hunter and Jeanna Fine dealing with the arrival from Finland of pal Nina Preta.
The usual scheming (and backfiring) of the '60s melodramas is interesting up to a point, but extreme closeups of interminable XXX footage and a very boring library suspense score sabotage the video. As she demonstrated in OVERSEXED Preta can't act worth a lick, and this is fundamentally damaging to Sarno's intended dramatics.
The pair of videos memorialize a bad patch in Fine's otherwise Hall of Fame career -displaying a punk Mohawk hairdo that would cause even Mister T to burst out laughing.
For Sarno fans the requisite lesbian slant is here, and interesting to watch in the parallel hardcore universe. With a better cast (seeing Bill Landis, the author of Sleazoid Express attempting XXX sex scenes is always depressing) and shooting on film this script might have gone somewhere.
