The Irish President Mary McAleese has described the film as "an invaluable cultural and historical treasure".
The Irish Film Institute has restored the film, and the DVD version released in Ireland is rated "E" (Exempt from classification).
The on-screen credits include several pseudonyms.
Actress Evelyn Henchey, who was 16 years old when the film was made, only appears in outdoor scenes, because these were filmed in Ireland. She was not allowed to travel to London where the interiors were shot in a studio.
