Decent movie about an important man
Tito-823 October 1999
This isn't a great movie, but this a movie that deserves to be seen. Sheldon's story is a well-known one among hockey fans, but it's a story that should be heard by a much larger audience. The movie itself is only okay, but then again, I was already familiar with most of the twists in his story. If only to find out about Sheldon's story and courage, you should watch this movie. Enjoyment of the film is secondary, learning about this man comes first.

Deeply Moving

I watched the Sheldon Kennedy story, and it brought me to tears as the message in the story was great about former NHL star Sheldon Kennedy and the adversity and office trauma that had affected him since he was 16, and seeing what this man had to go through made me realize that all people should have courage to speak out on what's bothering them, kudos to you Sheldon!!!!

Really positive

Excellent, tasteful portrayal of a disgusting series of events. Well acted by brilliant people. I had the pleasure of being an extra on this project and it was a very rewarding experience. I hope to see Paulie and Jonathan together on screen again.

I was an extra in this movie and must say how wonderful and professional the cast and crew were. The movie, in and of its self, is an excellent chronicle of Sheldon Kennedy's life so far.

An excellent and heart-warming story that everyone needs to hear

When I first found out that this was a story revolving around another hockey player from Canada, I thought it was just another hockey story. Then I was sitting at home one night with nothing else to do, and CTV was re-airing it, so I decided to sit down and watch. And how I was blown away.

I'm not one for that much hockey (sure I'll watch the play offs and everything like a typical Canadian) but this story just sucked me right into Sheldon Kennedy's conflict. It really isn't about the hockey, but that of a young boy who was abused by his hockey coach for numerous years. After a spur of the moment marriage, he comes out about his secret to his wife, and he must then try to control his anger and grief about what happened to him as a boy. The story continues on, and you will be swept away by the magnitude of Kennedy's message and story. One of the best mage-for-tv movies I've ever seen.

Heartbreaking and Insightful

This movie is heartbreaking and insightful. Sheldon was very brave to allow his story to be told and his doing so has surely helped many many men find healing. As well as protecting future generations from what he experienced as a youth in the hockey world. I understand why it may not generally have higher ratings since the production quality might not be full on Hollywood, but its well acted, especially by the main character. Some scenes are intensely emotional and the actor portrayed the pain perfectly. The story is one that needs to be told, and needs to be listened to. Many years later this movie still hangs with me. If you like to experience someone else's life and understand child and teen sex abuse, especially of a male, it's an essential watch.
