THE BEST OF LAUREL AND HARDY is a video clip compilation that does exactly what it says on the tin, although of course the "best" is a merely subjective term and really depends on the selective taste of whoever put this compilation together. One of the main draws about this film is that all of the clips included have been colourised in a basic way, so that you get to see segments of the old classics LAUGHING GRAVY and BELOW ZERO in a new way. Me, I'm no big fan of the colourisation process, but these clips are still funny in their own way and colouring them certainly doesn't spoil them. As somebody who still hasn't watched many of the duo's classic shorts, a lot of the scenarios were new to me anyway.
