Michael Chiklis enjoys calling the shots.
He does that to a certain degree as a star and co-executive producer of the CBS drama series "Vegas," which has just moved to Fridays. However, he does it much more with in this week's (April 12) episode, since he also directed it.
"It was a blast," Chiklis tells Zap2it. "This is a big show, and the production value is so high-end, I had a great time getting behind the camera on it.
"When I started the series, I knew I was going to want to direct, so we talked about it right from the outset. It was agreed that I would direct at least one episode every season, and this year, I agreed to wait until the back nine. We wanted to get the show up and running and established first, and it worked out perfectly."

Michael Chiklis is set to star in CBS' comedy pilot "Vince Uncensored," from Warner Bros. TV and Conan O'Brien's Conaco Prods. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the pilot (written by Phoef Sutton) deals with a man who takes a more honest approach to things after going through a life-altering experience. The actor, who is best known for tough-talking roles on dramas "The Shield" and "The Commish," has shown his comedic chops as a voice on "Family Guy," on NBC's short-lived sitcom "Daddio," and in the recent "Fantastic Four" films. Chiklis can currently be seen Tuesday nights on ABC's "No Ordinary Family." Although...

No Ordinary Family star Michael Chiklis is returning to comedy as the star of CBS' half-hour pilot Vince Uncensored, from veteran sitcom writer Phoef Sutton, Conan O'Brien's Conaco and Warner Bros. TV. For Chiklis, the pilot is in second position to the freshman ABC drama No Ordinary Family, which he stars in and co-executive produces. The actor, who won an Emmy for The Shield, was planning to sit this pilot season out but was offered CBS two comedy pilots: Vince Uncensored and the untitled Filgos project. Because he had been tied on No Ordinary Family, which just wrapped production, he could technically only do a comedy pilot as half-hour pilots start production later than dramas. As for Vince Uncensored, it centers on a man (Chiklis) who,...

"The Shield" star Michael Chiklis is moving back to broadcast television with a lead role in ABC's drama pilot "No Ordinary Family."
Chiklis, who starred in "The Commish" and "Daddio" for ABC in the 1990s, will play the father of a family that's discovering it has special powers. He'll also be a co-executive producer of the pilot, the showbiz trade papers report.
"No Ordinary Family" comes from Greg Berlanti ("Brothers & Sisters") and Jon Harmon Feldman ("Big Shots"), who worked together on "Dirty Sexy Money."
Chiklis has previously played a superhero in the "Fantastic Four" movies. We're going ahead and assuming he won't be turned into a rock-man like The Thing in "No Ordinary Family."
In other pilot casting news:
- "Friday Night Lights" star Zach Gilford has signed on to ABC's legal drama "Matadors," which centers on a feud between two families of lawyers. He will play a third-generation defense attorney at a prestigious firm,...
