The BBFC strike again!
HaemovoreRex6 October 2006
This was released in the UK under the title, Ninja Operation 6: Champion On Fire. There's just one little snag with the said title though, for in what must surely rank as one of the most hilariously inept and bungled decisions in the boards entire history, the viewing adjudicator of this film for the BBFC (the British Board Of Film Classification) in all of their apparent (un)wisdom proceeded to cut out all of the ninja scenes in order to render the film more structurally coherent!!! DUH!!!!!!

What can I say? Well, I suppose I must commend the BBFC heartily for it's obvious non discrimination in the hiring of blatantly retarded anthropological throwbacks and morons at the very least. Yes, in fact let's all give this fine upstanding body an exaggeratedly slow and sarcastic round of applause.

I suppose to be entirely fair, the relevant adjudicator could be (almost) forgiven for this bungled attempt to get matters right though; They'd quite obviously never come across a Joseph Lai/Godfrey Ho cut and splice ninja outing before and seeing scenes involving luminous clad ninja edited into a completely non related movie they must have thought that the film was some sort of cinematic aberration in need of some help.

Just one little question though.....did they not read the title of the movie? NINJA OPERATION?!?!?!

But this wasn't a ninja movie...
paul_haakonsen8 September 2022
Granted, it shall be no secret that I was harboring no expectations as I sat down to watch the 1987 action movie "Ninja Avengers". Why? Well, it being a late 1980s ninja movie, plus the cover wasn't exactly screaming top-of-the-line movie. But hey, for nostalgic reason, as I watched a lot of ninja movies back in the 1980s, then of course I opted to watch what writers Godfrey Ho and Stephen So had to offer.

Needless to say that I had never actually heard about this movie before now in 2022, as I stumbled upon it by sheer random chance.

First of all, the movie's title is insanely misleading, as this movie is a classic 1980s style Chinese martial arts movie. Not really a ninja movie here, unless you consider someone wearing a red headband with the word "ninja" printed on it as being ninja material. And secondly, the movie was an impressive display of poor dubbing into English.

The storyline in "Ninja Avengers" was pretty basic stuff and straight forward. Yeah, you're not in for a grand cinematic experience when and if you opt to watch a movie such as "Ninja Avengers". So directors Joseph Lai and Godfrey Ho didn't exactly impress with this movie.

The martial arts in the movie, however, were actually fairly good. Well, at least the choreography, because it was blatantly obvious that there was no physical contact between this throwing a punch or doing a kick and the recipient of the aforementioned attack.

"Ninja Avengers" is not a movie that I would recommend you waste your time, money or effort on, not even if you enjoyed the good, old school ninja movies of the 1980s.

My rating of "Ninja Avengers" lands on a three out of ten stars.

Another Ninja tacked in film from Hong Kong!!!
Serpent-51 June 2000
Just like those Thomas Tang "so-called" Ninja films that comes out on Imperial Video. This one has a tacked in plot of Richard Harrison trying to fight off European Ninjas in a footage that doesn't even match the film! The whole film is bascially a RED SUN rip-off (but this time Japanese steals a statue) that has a DJANGO like character carrying a cross that contains a gatlin gun. Boring, dull, but got some intresting scenes. Not recommended.

Amazing
BandSAboutMovies1 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Also known as Shaolin Quick Draw, Ninja: Champion on Fire and Ninja Operation 6: Champion on Fire, this Godfrey Ho-directed mix and match remake remix rip-off takes much of its story from Da di long zhong (Fury In Storm), a 1974 Chin-Liang Hsu-directed movie that features a guy named Anthony (Patrick Kelly), a Catholic who is such a true believer that he carries a wooden cross like Jesus. He carries it everywhere.

He's nearly killed when the train that allows him on is taken over by a Japanese gang, but he's the one that slowed the train down so they could attack it. They get what they wanted, a gold statue, and then double-cross him.

They crucify him, even placing a man on each side of him, but somehow he survives and ends up meeting a man named Dragon (Yi Chang), a martial arts master who teaches him how to withstand blows from weapons and walk through punches and kicks.

Does this seem weird enough for you? I mean, the original film was called Django - Im Reich der gelben Teufel (Django - In the Realm of the Yellow Devils) in Germany. That's because just like Django's coffin, Anthony's crucifix - that he's already survived being crucified on - has a Gatling gun inside it.

Master Gordon (Richard Harrison), the ninja who has been in so many of Godfrey Ho's movies, shows up in this, battling other brightly colored ninjas and also meeting Anthony in a waterfall to warn him about a danger he is about to face. He's also about to battle an evil ninja named Ringo (Stuart Smith).

This is also very much an Italian Western with an ambiguous hero - Anthony is a man of God but somehow has no issues slapping around the lover of the main bad guy, who has fallen for Dragon and he or her - and an ending where, like the best of the Eurowest, nearly everybody dies, including Anthony chasing most of the gang that put him up against a firing squad earlier and doing onto others as you would have them do onto you.

Also, as always, lots of Tangerine Dream. Some Mike Oldfield, too.

The movies of Godfrey Ho and the AAV Creative Unit are always going to be strange. But even I was not ready for this film which tears through pop culture, ripping off rip-offs, reducing film to some formless amorphous ever-changing Silly Putty that distorts but retains some of the story of the funny pages that it has stretched out upon.

One of my favorite Ho & Lai films!
davidmax-8639228 June 2021
This movie is just ridiculous, it's fun af and if you don't think so I don't know why you seek out those movies in the first place.

I'm happy Mister Ho decided to cut Master Gordon into an actual Ninja movie, I couldn't even tell at first what was cut into it and what was the actual movie (until the Master, Richard Harrison entered the scene). In Ninja Protector for example he just edited Ninja footage into a crime-sex film, that made it hard to understand why Master Gordon was part of it all.

Ninja Avengers is pure and honest fun. Django Jesus mowing down dozens of Ninjas was the perfect and most insane finale ever. I loved it on every trashy level. The story itself is so basic level that it doesn't matter what exactly is going on.

Ninja Avengers is easily on the levels of Bionic Ninja, Ninja Squad and Ninja Challenge, don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

If you are a trash enthusiast or love underground filmmaking then please watch this piece of cinematic gold as fast as you can.

The overacting, messy editing and nonsense conclusion make this the perfect Ho&Lai experience.

Drink a few beer, smoke a good one and enjoy the adventures of Master Gordon and Co.

10/10 on a pure entertainment level, as a movie this is a 3/10.

I do not like yellow...
infernberg16 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I have seen this film under the title "Operation Ninja-6. Champion on fire". And what can i say about this movie? A machine gun in a cross - not bad, really not bad. And it is single positive thing that i can say about no-ninja part of this movie. About ninja... This film is not so good as "Ninja-squad" or "Ninja-terminator". Why? Becourse... Firstly... the fighting scenes with Ricard Harrison against private ninjas of opposing gang are short and not interesting. Bad ninjas do not demonstrate a high level of skill in martial arts (no acrobatic tricks etc). Secondaly... The evil chief-ninja (Ringo)is only a pale shadow of such charismatic and collocate characters as Ivan the Red (Dave Wheeler in "Ninja-squad") or Baron (Jonathan Wattis in "Ninja-terminator"}. Even Pierre Tremblay in "Ninja champion" is more impressive. And finally... I do not like a yellow ninja suit! I like camouflage, black... well white ninja suit. I do not understand a choice of Richard Harrison in this not too impressive movie.
