New Delhi, Aug 23 (Ians) Young India batter Shubman Gill revealed the secret for his successful Odi partnership with Rohit Sharma, saying the skipper gives the players full freedom for how they want to express their game.
The pair compiled 685 runs at 76.11 in the nine instances batting together in the format. Taking out their only partnership together while not opening the batting, their average partnership jumps to 85.37.
The combination’s output will be no doubt important in India’s Cricket World Cup campaign as the side look to emulate their success in 2011.
“It feels great to be able to open with him, especially knowing that all the focus is on him. He’s someone who likes the other batters to go and just express himself and play the way I want to play the game. Bulawayo, June 19 (Ians) Kashyap Prajapati, Aqib Ilyas and captain Zeeshan Maqsood struck half-centuries as Oman made the first upset victory of the Men’s Odi World Cup qualifiers by chasing down 282 against a much-fancied Ireland with five wickets in hand and 11 balls to spare at the Bulawayo Athletic Club on Monday.
The five-wicket victory over Ireland is Oman’s first-ever victory over a Test nation in an Odi, triggering jubilant scenes in the team dugout as the gulf nation completed their highest-ever successful run chase in the format, throwing Group B wide open.
A flurry of lower-order runs took Ireland to 281/7, with George Dockrell slamming a career-best 91 while Harry Tector made 52, though the side played a whopping 157 dot balls in their innings.
In reply, Oman chased their target down in style, thanks to efforts from Prajapati, Ilyas and Maqsood in a largely unbothered chase, followed by Mohammad Nadeem (46 not out...

Dharamshala, May 18 (Ians) Riley Rossouw’s blistering knock of unbeaten 82 off 37 and Prithvi Shaw fine fifty (54 off 38) followed by a collective bowling effort led Delhi Capitals (DC) to a thrilling 15-run win over Punjab Kings (Pbks) in an Ipl 2023 match at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (Hpca) Stadium, here on Wednesday.
David Warner and Shaw stepped up and gave DC the perfect start. The skipper fell four short but Shaw scored a fine fifty. Then, Rossouw and Philip Salt (26) joined hands to give the perfect finish, scoring 51 runs off the last three overs as DC posted 213/2 in 20 overs.
In reply, after a shaky start, Atharva Taide ( 55 off 42) and Livingstone’s blitzkrieg (94 off 48) brought Pbks back in the game. However, Delhi bowlers did well to keep taking wickets from one end despite fireworks from Livingstone as they dealt a hammer blow to Punjab’s chances of qualifying for the play-offs with a 15-run win.

Chennai, May 11 (Ians) Skipper Ms Dhoni’s late cameo (20 off 9) followed by a clinical show from the bowlers lead Chennai Super Kings (Csk) to a comfortable 27-run win over Delhi Capitals (DC) in an Ipl 2023 game at the Ma Chidambaram Stadium, here on Wednesday.
Delhi spinners were at their best as they kept the Csk batters at bay with six batters crossing 20 and the highest individual score was 25. But Dhoni’s crucial cameo ensured Csk finished with a fighting total of 167/8 in 20 overs.
In reply, Delhi got off to a dismal start as they lost their openers in the Powerplay. Then, Riley Rossouw and Pandey steadied the ship and built a 59-run stand. But Csk bowlers maintained the stranglehold on the Capital batters to restrict them to 140/8 and notched their seventh win of the tournament.

Visakhapatnam, March 20 (Ians) After claiming a sensational fifer against India in the second Odi, fearsome Australia speedster Mitchell Starc has revealed that his plan to bowl full and hit the stumps in the Powerplay overs hasn’t changed for the last 13 years and it has served him so well.
Starc showed signs of his best while picking up the superb figures of 5/53 in a Player of the Match performance in Australia’s 10-wicket romp over India on Sunday and now has eight scalps in total from the opening two matches of the three-game series.
The pacer’s ability to strike during the Powerplay has been on show in India, with four of Starc’s wickets in the pivotal second match of the series coming during a blistering opening spell that put the hosts immediately on back foot after they were sent into bat first by stand-in Australia captain Steve Smith.

Cape Town, Feb 23 (Ians) Ahead of a highly-anticipated semifinal clash against India in the 2023 Icc Women’s T20 World Cup, Australia’s talismanic wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy highlighted the depth in the side, adding that players in the team do the job of making the team win in their own way.
“I really enjoy doing my job for the team, especially on knockout occasions so if I do my job today then we’ll be well on our way to setting a good score or chasing a total down. There’s a lot of trust in our group.”
“Everyone does their job in their own way. If we’re three-for in the Powerplay, we still have a lot of depth to keep going and do the job. Having more young players has been really rejuvenating for our squad,” she said in a pre-match chat with broadcasters.

Gqeberha (South Africa), Feb 20 (Ians) A sparkling innings from Smriti Mandhana helped India seal a semifinal spot in the Icc Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 with a rain-affected five-run victory over Ireland.
Mandhana cashed in on being afforded several lives by Irish fielders to strike a career-best T20I score of 87 from 56 deliveries as India posted 155 for six here, with Laura Delany (3-33) and Orla Prendergast (2-22) the pick of the Ireland attack.
Ireland lost two wickets in the first over of the chase but Delany and Gaby Lewis were rebuilding effectively until the rain arrived with Ireland on 54 for two in the ninth over, five runs shy of the Dls par score.
India knew victory would seal the second qualification spot from Group 2 alongside England, and maintain their hopes of topping the group, and they opted to bat upon winning the toss.

St Lucia, Sep 12 (Ians) Saint Lucia Kings kept their Hero Cpl hopes alive with dominant win over St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.
The Patriots opted to field first after winning the toss. That decision seemed to have backfired as Johnson Charles and Faf Du Plessis put on a blistering opening partnership that saw them post 61 runs in the PowerPlay.
They put on 86 for the first wicket, before Charles was dismissed in the ninth over. His 41 included four fours and two sixes. The Lucia Kings faltered after losing nine wickets for 75 runs and totalled 161 for nine, which was a challenging total. Some late hitting from Matthew Forde ensured the Kings were able to post a par score of 161.
However, the Patriots got off to a bad start in the PowerPlay losing three wickets for 48 runs. They never recovered from that position.

Saint Lucia, Sep 8 (Ians) The Barbados Royals secured their third successive victory of the 2022 Hero Caribbean Premier League (Cpl) season with a resounding win over Trinbago Knight Riders by 80 runs following the application of the Duckworth Lewis system as the match was hit by rain.

Later David Miller scored a whirlwind 60 runs from just 36 balls.
In a chase affected by rain, Knight Riders suffered a batting collapse. They lost six wickets in the Powerplay before rain brought a premature end to proceedings with the score at 51-7 after 8 overs. The Royals were adjudged winners by 80 runs.

Just as was the case in their five-wicket loss to Pakistan, the defending champions were unable to defend their score of 173/8, losing with a ball to spare and leaving their hopes of reaching the Asia Cup 2022 final at the outcome of other matches, including on Wednesday’s match between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Ians takes a look at the reasons where India lost the plot to Sri Lanka and find themselves now on the brink of elimination from Asia Cup 2022:
Top-order struggle:
In last year’s T20 World Cup in the UAE, India were undone by facing left-arm pace bowling and spin in early stage of their innings. The same story was repeated against Sri Lanka. Off-spinner Maheesh Theekshana had trapped Kl Rahul lbw in the second over.
In the next over, left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka got one to come in and shatter Virat Kohli’s stumps for nought. India...

New Delhi, Aug 31 (Ians) Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has raised doubts over Steve Smith’s certainty in Australia’s playing XI for the 2022 T20 World Cup and also questioned the team’s approach in selection for the mega event.
The 33-year old Smith earlier this week indicated that he wanted to play more aggressive T20 cricket for Australia as opposed to performing a ‘Mr Fix-it’ role in tough situations.
“They like to attack in a number three position (Mitch Marsh) and then if that doesn’t work, then that’s where Smith has been used in the middle to pick up the pieces after a couple of early wickets,” said Ponting in the latest episode of The Icc Review.
“It’s not an easy role to play. I think in the modern T20 game, no one wants to be playing that role, because it becomes the most difficult role in the game.

Dubai, Aug 16 (Ians) Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting is confident batter Suryakumar Yadav will be in the India side for the Icc T20 World Cup in October this year, adding that the 31-year-old was not the one to “step down” from a challenge whatever be the situation.
The Australian great has seen Yadav from close in his early years in Mumbai during the Indian Premier League (Ipl), and feels the Indian selectors should include the middle-order batter in the playing XI for the Icc T20 World Cup Down Under.
“He’s a very, very exciting player and I’m sure someone that’s going to find himself in their team, not just their squad,” Ponting said on The Icc Review.
