Last week, I was very critical in the way Daniel Bryan was just chosen by John Cena for the SummerSlam main event. I felt it was more pandering to the audience. It didn’t feel like Daniel Bryan was seen on the same level of the WWE champion. It was more of a charity case. That was all rectified this week, deep in the heart of Texas from Austin.
The show begins with a drum roll again. (I guess that’s Brad Maddox theme song?)
We have the customary contract signing with the Raw Gm and the two competitors. I like this for two reasons. I like this because there was no violence and they solidified why Daniel Bryan deserved the shot in the eyes of both John Cena and Daniel Bryan. I even like the effect of Brad Maddox showing doubts of the bearded wonder thanks to the influence of the higher power.

Exclusive: The U.S. reality pool is getting crowded. Fox is taking a plunge into the competition celebrity diving reality arena with Stars In Danger: High Diving, a two-hour special that will air this winter. It will be produced by Bunim/Murray Prods based on a format owned by its parent company Banijay International. If successful, it could spawn a regular series. The Stars In Danger green light comes on the heels of ABC giving a straight-to-series order earlier this month to Celebrity Splash, a competition celebrity diving reality series from Eyeworks USA, also based on an European format owned by Eyeworks. Stars In Danger: High Diving is expected to hit the water (air) first. While Celebrity Splash only premiered in August in the Netherlands (as Sterren Springen), Stars In Danger: High Diving has long traditions. It has aired as a yearly two-night, three-hour special on ProSieben in Germany since 2004 as TV Total Turmspringen.

Rihanna's music video for "Russian Roulette" doesn't premiere until Friday night on "20/20," but the singer did release a snippet of the Anthony Mandler-directed clip on a German talk show.
On Wednesday when the singer, who drops her Rated R album on November 23, stopped by "TV Total" in Germany to chat about her new album, she also previewed about 30 seconds of the video. In it, Rihanna is imprisoned, trying to plead with an officer. Soon, the video cuts to Rihanna sitting at a table across from a man with a gun between them. There are also shots of Rihanna looking sullen and singing the eerie ballad.
The fan site RihannaDaily.com has three stills from the video showing three additional scenes. They are darker than the images in the preview clip,...

"Cha Cha Cha." Not the famous rap song Mc Lyte brought to life in the 1980s, the "Cha, Cha, Cha."
Eminem appeared on the German program "TV Total" earlier this week, and not only gave an interview, but kicked a freestyle over a beat host Stefan Raab called "Cha, Cha, Cha," while Raab and the house band played along.
"Here I go, lyr-ree-cal/ I have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm spir-rit-ual. ... I have no f---in' clue, what the f--- I'm doing," he reiterated in his rap before the talk show host sang.
Slim Shady also sat down for a interview, coming out in comical form, briefly wearing an anti-swine flu mask — and even began talking into the mic through it. He also learned several German swear words and heard about German rappers.

COLOGNE, Germany -- Viacom is considering launching an all-comedy channel in Germany, to replace its local alternative music station Viva Plus. In an interview Monday with the Financial Times Deutschland, MTV Networks Europe chief executive Simon Guild said Viacom's substantial success with its in-house comedy in Germany would make an all-comedy channel a good fit for the territory. In addition to its MTV, Nick, Viva and Viva Plus channels in Germany, Viacom also controls Brainpool, the country's largest television comedy producer. Brainpool produces several local hits including TV Total and Stromberg, the German version of The Office. "It would make sense to use this competence in the transformation (of Viva Plus)," Guild said. Viacom acquired Viva and Brainpool last year for about 330 million ($388.3 million). Earlier this year, Viacom dropped its MTV2Pop channel in Germany, replacing it with kids station Nick.

COLOGNE, Germany -- German commercial networks RTL and SAT.1 proved they are still the standouts in the stand-up crowd by dominating the nominations for the third annual German Comedy Prize, which were announced Wednesday. The two channels picked up 10 nominations each, all but shutting out the competition. The only other station represented in this year's nominations for Germany's top television comedy award is SAT.1 sister channel ProSieben, whose TV-Total picked up a nomination for best comedy show. Alles Atze (Everything Atze), the weekly RTL sitcom based on the stand-up routines of blue-collar comedian Atze Schroeder, led the nominations, grabbing a nom for best comedy series as well as comedy actor and comedy actress nominations, respectively, for stars Schroeder and Heike Kloss. Schroeder will also host the ceremonies for the awards, set to be broadcast Oct. 11 on RTL.

MUNICH -- German music television group VIVA Media AG returned to the black in 2002, the company revealed in its annual results presented at a press conference in Cologne Wednesday. EBITDA for 2002 was at 30 million ($32 million), compared with losses of 13.5 million in 2001. Profits reached 859,000 ($918,000), up from a pro-forma minus of 28.8 million the year before. The huge leap in earnings was mostly thanks to the sale of a 49% stake in the VIVA Plus channel to AOL Time Warner for 30 million ($32 million) during 2002. The group also cut almost 200 positions, bringing its workforce down to 580. The continuing ad slump in Germany brought net advertising revenues down by 7% at the music TV broadcaster, about the national average. But VIVA still beat out MTV for market share in Germany last year, and management expects sales to be "stable" in 2003. The brightest spot in the group was non-music subsidiary Brainpool, which produces mostly comedy formats for TV. Brainpool managed to successfully place several new shows besides continuing with its perennial favorite, the comedy variety program TV Total.
