A two-part offering more effective than any one, two, or multiple-reel picturization of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" that we have seen. It has its faults, but its excellencies more than balance them. The best in it is the Simon Legree played by Hal Clemmons, and the strongest portrayal of the part that this reviewer has even seen anywhere. This picture is in itself a comment on the presupposition that any and every "big" story needs four or five reels to put it over adequately. It ought to be axiomatic that the fewer the reels a producer can get along with, the stronger his work will be.
