When the two criminals (Thaw and McDermott ) cut the alarm wire before breaking into the betting shop, they hide the wire by pasting it over with a poster for the newly released British film "Billy Liar" (1963) starring Tom Courtenay and Julie Christie. Episode star John Thaw and the film's star Tom Courtenay were in fact lifelong friends, who first met when they were students together at RADA in the 1950s.
