A cynical ending mars a classic
Kolangal is a 1981 multi starring Malayalam film directed by KG George.
I mention the directed because it's very well directed. The only reason the film fails (as I believe it would have in the box office too) is the cynical ending.
What could have been a cherished village life comedy movie ended up being true to the film's name. That is, a collation of Caricatures (Kolangal).
And in order to make it to end in the cynical way it had to for each of the sub-plots, a lot of compromises and holes were put into the otherwise well developed script in the last half hour.
For this reason alone, I rated it 6 instead of 8 on IMDB.
