in Mattoral you turned in another respectable performance as a depressed man facing a mid-life crisis after his wife leaves him for another man. This role did have similarities to the character of Unni which you played in Adoor's Elipathaayam. Both men are trapped and unable to deal with the happenings around them. Unable to stand up to the challenges that a changing world poses to them, they sink into a state of helplessness and acedia.
I watched the film a long time ago so I am unable to recall some of the film's finer details.
K.G.George made some interesting films in his time. Mattoral is an indictment of modern life with its dull jobs and meaningless relationships which turn men into dullards. The breakdown of the Indian family due to social changes is another theme in Mattoral.
It also takes on the cult of extra marital affairs as the character played by Seema is unable to attain happiness after running away with another man. Disappointment seems to be the only certainty of modern life.
