Detective Tigger, starring Tigger as Private Ear...

Winnie the Pooh has always been a big part of my childhood, right from the stories, to the movies, TV specials and of course this series, which for me is still one of the best series Disney ever did. For a while now, I have been re-watching the episodes on my old videos and they are as good as they ever were. Making Friends is my personal favourite video, but I have a lot of fondness for Detective Tigger seeing as Tigger has always been my favourite character.

"Tigger, Private Ear" is a classic for fans of Tigger. While Pooh and Gopher have some great moments with "Where were you on the night of the 43rd?/Um...Asleep" and "Your honour...the verdict?/Don't rush me sonny!", but Tigger in his private ear guise steals the show, hilarious and lovable as he ever was with the episode highlight being where "he throws himself at the mercy of the court". The animation is vibrant and beautiful, the story is a clever take on the detective genre with some bits reminiscent of Clue and the episode is beautifully orchestrated as always. The writing is superb, one of the funnier episodes of the show for me, and the opening sequence is genuinely atmospheric.

"Sham Pooh" is hilarious, even surpassing "Tigger, Private Ear" for how truly funny it is. It is a classic story of mistaken identity, complete with 24 carat Disney animation, jaunty music, the characters as timeless as ever, top notch voice acting and great writing. I especially loved the "why my paw seems to have forgotten its way to my mouth" "do you think my appetite's down there Tigger?" lines, they are so adorable, and the part where Gopher goes "Pooh Bear" and both Pooh and Owl go "Yes?" amuses me every time.

"Invasion of the Pooh Snatchers" fits the theme of the video perfectly, just like the previous two episodes. Tigger once again steals the show especially with "I'm Too Late. Pooh's been snatched by the springing jagular. I gotta save Pooh... I gotta protect my friends from The Dreadiful Danger that lurks and springs. Rrrrrgh" and "bounce don't fail me now". But I also fell off my bed laughing with Gopher's "don't you know you could hurt the floor or something?", is it just me or does anybody else love it that Gopher has many moments to shine in this show.

"Eeyore's Tail Tale" rounds off the video very nicely. Again Tigger shines in the way only Tigger can. The story is simple yet always entertaining with some nice surprises along the way. The animation is still impressive, the music beautiful, the voice work consistently good and the writing wonderfully droll. Eeyore is so endearing once you look past his gloominess as you can tell in some episodes he cares about his friends, and Pooh is adorable with some of his words of wisdom and all that coming across as real laugh out loud moments.

Overall, another great video to add to your Winnie the Pooh collection. 10/10 Bethany Cox
