Low budget, interesting romance marred by brief, explicit scenes
inkblot1119 February 2004
Meg (Julie Depaul), a 30-something female, has taken care of her ailing mother for a number of years. When her mother dies, she is grief-stricken but four close friends support her through the tough moments. One of her friends is a lawyer and in charge of Meg's mother's will. She tells Meg that, according to her mother's last wishes, Meg must marry within six months to own the home she has inherited. Otherwise, the house is to be sold. Startled at first, Meg gradually warms to the idea that her mother was interested in seeing her in a loving relationship. Surfing the net, Meg winds up on a matchmaking chat room and promptly invites five eligible men to a barbecue. Her four female friends are invited, also, natch. Will Meg and her pals meet their soulmates and will Meg be successful in hanging on to her house?

This sweet, female-bonding movie has moments of humor and heartbreak. The script is intriguing, if not totally successful. The circle of women are all attractive and nicely portrayed while the five suitors are a motley crew of the sublime to the ridiculous. The veterinarian, especially, is a hoot and a half. Beware! There are two totally unnecessary and explicit sex scenes that mar this otherwise likeable film. Although the movie is a virtual unknown, it is well-suited for a girl's night out. Female movie fans who stumble upon it will enjoy watching it with their girlfriends.
