Since Victoria O'Keefe was not disabled in real life, she spent time with three young disabled men at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield to research a little more about her character.
Letty ran for a single series, with no repeat airings, in 1984 and was a TVS production for ITV. Six episodes aired in the 4.20pm slot on Wednesdays as part of the Children's ITV schedule.
The series was written by Avril Rowlands and based on her children's book Letty.
Writer Avril Rowlands based the character of Letty on a close friend whom she found to be "an inspirational person with a zest for life and a refusal to allow her disability to get in the way of what she wants to achieve."
