I still remember this show despite few people seems to do so. Uniseries, a channel dedicated to broadcast classic TV series, took pride in airing all the Star Trek shows existent at the time. For that reason, it was one of the first ideas in mind when the decision to make a series of comic shorts to place between shows was taken. And thus, "Lucho y Tito: Mecánicos del Enterprise" (Lucho & Tito: Mechanics of the Enterprise) was born.
The subtitle soon changed to "Mecánicos en el Espacio" (Mechanics in Space), probably to avoid copyright problems, but the premise stayed the same. Clad in the uniform of the original Trek series, Lucho and Tito spent their time in a spaceship set, most of the time lazing around instead of working, occasionally interacting with other members of the crew and even a few extraterrestrials. One of them, a 'Grey' shaped balloon, was the only regular character aside from the main duo. Well, at least it was portrayed as one, since despite being completely silent and inanimate, the actors pretended to actually converse with it. Sometimes, Lucho and Tito would sing comical songs, 'unplugged' style.
The series was full of bizarre and absurd humor, and references to sci-fi themes, though the sci-fi element itself was sometimes left in the background. Although not exactly hilarious, the show was really enjoyable, having its good share of funny moments. The songs sounded good, too. Unfortunately, it never seemed to gain much attention, even though critical praise was given to it, perhaps because of the reduced group it was aimed at. The show stopped airing after a while, and no compilations were ever made of it, at least to my knowledge. I haven't found sites dedicated to it either. For now, I still long for a day in which they may release the episodes in a DVD set.
