After watching last week’s ‘Game of Thrones’ episode — “The Broken Man” — fans were less concerned with the politics of the Seven Kingdoms and more concerned with getting more Lyanna Mormont, Stat. But who is this tiny yet ferocious child who stole our hearts? She is the Lady of Bear Island and a descendant of some of the most badass women in all of Westeros. Take the hardiness of the Iron Born and the viciousness of the Dornish and you get the Mormonts. Image Credit: HBO Way back in Season 1, Game of Thrones introduced the audience to House Mormont on three fronts. Jeor Mormont as the Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, Jorah Mormont as the disappointing son, and Maege Mormont (the She-Bear to you) as the Lady of Bear Island and one of Robb Stark’s sworn swords. A casualty of plot condensing, Lady Maege and her daughters Dacey,...

Helen Mirren left Stephen Colbert lost for words by flirtatiously kissing the talk show host.
The 70-year-old British star made a spectacular entrance before her interview on The Late Show on Tuesday (March 8), grabbing Stephen around the neck and delivering a sensual kiss on the lips.
The funnyman was left dumbstruck by his guest's seductive greeting, remaining rooted to the spot while Helen took her seat until she beckoned him to join her.
The Queen actress revealed that kissing her host had been a long-term ambition, saying, "I have been dreaming of doing that for about 15 years. So I just grabbed my chance."
Clearly flustered as he mopped his brow, Stephen could only reply, "I suddenly can't remember any of my questions. That is one of the nicest greetings any guest has ever given me. Wow. You know what you're doing."
Helen joked that she wanted to be even more intimate with the host.

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the third announced earlier today. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on ABC.
The network is changing up some of its serialized dramas - removing random repeats in favor of two "uninterrupted runs" of twelve episodes each (one in the fall, one in the spring) for shows like "Once Upon A Time," "Grey’s Anatomy," "Scandal" and "Revenge". The large gaps between the two half-seasons will be bridged by "limited series" designed around only 12-13 episode seasons.
Several other pilots didn't make the final cut and won't be seen including the high-profile "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" rip-off "Gothica", McG's rip-off of Baz Luhrmann's "Romeo + Juliet" entitled "Westside", the series based on Disneyland's Big Thunder Mountain ride, the Annie Potts-led "Murder in Manhattan" about...

Stocky supporting actor who won an Oscar when he was cast against type as a lonely butcher in Marty
With his coarsely podgy features, bug eyes, gap-toothed grin and stocky build, Ernest Borgnine, who has died aged 95 of renal failure, seemed destined to remain one of nature's supporting actors in a string of sadistic and menacing parts. Instead he won an Oscar for a role which was the antithesis of all his previous characters.
In 1955, the producer Harold Hecht wanted to transfer Paddy Chayefsky's teleplay Marty to the big screen, with Rod Steiger in the title role, which he had created. But Steiger was filming Oklahoma! so was unavailable. Borgnine was offered the role after a female guest at a Hollywood reception quite disinterestedly remarked to Hecht that, ugly as he was, Borgnine possessed an oddly tender quality which made her yearn to mother him. "That," Hecht said later,...

While Episode 3 of HBO's hit Soapless Opera was a bit talkier - not to mention 100% less infanticidey - than the last two eps, that's not to say that it didn't offer its fair share of thrills, chills, and dead kids. Let's jump in, shall we?
We pick right off with Jon Snow (Kit Harington) getting his frozen ass handed to him by his sword-coveting, baby-killing host, Craster (Robert Pugh). Seriously, does no one have a copy of Martha Stewart Entertains to pass around north of the wall to help people navigate these situations? Because it says - right there in Chapter 1 - that it is considered impolite to murder your children and/or feed them to the Undead that Rule the Night when you have guests over. Also, I didn't see a single guest towel!

Well hello, my Wildlings! Yes, our Crown Prince has heard your pleas and we will, indeed, be recapping the second season of HBO's dragontastic Hair Opera Game of Thrones. You may know me from my liveblogs of As the World Turns or recaps of American Horror Story, the combination of which makes me uncannily well-suited for covering such a complex, melodramatic, and patently batsh*t series. And I am well-versed in the ins and outs (and ins and outs) of the series, so never fear - I will have no trouble keeping my Bannisters straight from my Targomuffins.
We didn't recap the first episode, but I can sum it up in one animated Gif:
"You Get A King! And You Get A King! And You Get A King!"
That's right - since Gossip Girl Baratheon decided to spill the Lannisters' sister-lovin' beans via raven text, everyone has decided that Lady...

Fans waited 5 long years for George R.R. Martin to release A Dance with Dragons, the 5th book in A Song of Ice and Fire. Was it worth it? Hell yes it was, but that doesn’t mean that the wait was easy. After fans turned the final page, the question on all of our minds apparent: how long until book six?
Well, either Martin loves screwing with us, or he’s sympathetic to our concerns. On his website, Grrm has released a chapter from The Winds of Winter, the 6th book in the series. Not only that, he has promised that another snippet of the book will appear in the paperback version of A Dance with Dragons in July. This is in no way an indication of how soon we’ll see the 6th book tome, but it’s comforting to know that he’s already hard at work on the next chapter.

I commend a piece on doorstepping, My life as a milk bottle, by Fleet Street veteran John Smith (aka Plain John Smith in his days on The People).
Three anecdotes from his piece, on the gentlemenranters.com website, illustrate why he urges journalism schools to include doorstepping in the curriculum alongside shorthand and media law.
First, the perils...
"Via the intercom of his grand house in Eaton Square, I tried to explain to Laurence Olivier that the anguish he was suffering over the breakdown of his marriage to Vivien Leigh could best be assuaged by opening his heart to readers of the Daily Sketch.
"Instead, England's greatest actor chose to open an upstairs window and throw a bucket of water over me."
Second, the benefits of persistence...

Babies can come as quite a surprise… especially if you aren’t pregnant! In honor of Life As We Know It, which comes to theaters on Friday, we are dedicating our list to the joys of inheriting a child!
Top Ten Unexpected Child Movies
Honorable Mention: Superman The Movie
The Old Testament has inspired many works of art. Perhaps there’s none more famous than Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster’s Superman. Borrowing from the story of Moses, baby Superman (known on Krypton as Kal-El) floats thru the cosmos in a spaceship instead of a basket drifting down a stream. The first scenes of Richard Donner’s 1978 Superman The Movie are set on the aforementioned planet Krypton as noted scientist Jor-El and his wife, Lara, decide to place their only child in an experimental space ship directed at the planet Earth. Marlon Brando and Suzanne York are heartbreaking as the...
