Many of the recurring faces on "The Simpsons" have the same voice: Harry Shearer. Alongside Hank Azaria, Shearer does more than double duty in playing the series' supporting cast. As a testament to his range, his roles run the gamut from nice guy Ned Flanders to milquetoast Principal Skinner (don't say Armin Tamzarian) to evil Mr. Charles Montgomery Burns, owner of the Springfield Nuclear Plant and Homer Simpson's boss.
Shearer is the definitive voice of Mr. Burns (he's been doing it for 30+ seasons), but he wasn't the first actor to voice the character. That would be the late Christopher Collins, who was briefly part of the "Simpsons" cast during its first season, which aired from 1989 to 1990. Collins voiced Burns in the following episodes: "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire," "Homer's Odyssey," "There's No Disgrace Like Home," and "The Telltale Head."
Shearer took over in the season 1 episode "Homer's Night Out.

It looks like Amazon MGM Studios has He-Man’s power sword as the studio is in early talks to produce a live-action “Masters of the Universe” film, according to a insider with knowledge of the project.
Netflix put the property into turnaround after investing $30 million in its development. The project has been bouncing around Hollywood from Mattel and producer Todd Black for over 15 years, with Warner Bros. and Sony, as well as filmmakers like Jon M. Chu and McG temporarily involved.
This recent attempt was shelved due to concerns over the budget, which reportedly ran over $200 million and was shut down even after the filmmakers allegedly brought the costs below $180 million.
This latest version had Kyle Allen — still officially attached — starring as He-Man with Adam and Aaron Nee (“The Lost City”) set to direct.
Should Amazon move forward with the project, they will need to negotiate new agreements with the...

This article contains spoilers for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
When we first meet Noah Diaz (Anthony Ramos), he’s a tech genius struggling to find a job and a purpose. By the end of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, he’s found a purpose by playing an important role in helping the Autobots and Maximals stop the Terrorcons from bringing the planet-destroying Unicron to Earth. But he still doesn’t have a job. That is until he’s approached by a man who knows what Noah has done for the planet and wants to recruit him. The name on the man’s business card? G.I. Joe.
By this point, shared universe teases such as these have become commonplace in blockbuster films, often pointing to larger franchises that nobody really wants (R.I.P. Dark Universe). But the G.I. Joe reveal in the latest Transformers might have a...

"The Transformers: The Movie" exists in the shadow of "Star Wars." The young Autobot Hot Rod's ascension to Rodimus Prime parallels Luke Skywalker becoming a Jedi, Arcee's head is modeled after Leia's bun hairstyle, and the film's Orson Welles-voiced villain, Unicron, is a mechanical planet that eats other planets — it's like the Death Star, but if it were a Transformer.
"Star Wars" didn't become the media franchise of the world because of its box office haul, but largely because of merchandise sales. Toy companies made a killing on "Star Wars" action figures, among them Hasbro, owner of "Transformers." Partly thanks to "Star Wars," movies and TV shows began to be designed to include characters and vehicles that could be turned into toys. "The Transformers" and its sister show, "G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero," were the epitome of this -- they were literal toy commercials disguised as cartoons,...

Rick and Morty Season 5 Episode 3
It seems like Rob Schrab is nostalgic for the era of kids’ cartoons from my childhood. I say my childhood, because Schrab—longtime collaborator and friend of Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon—is over a decade older than me, but he loves to parody cartoons from when I was growing up. He had a major role doing a Cobra Commander impression in the animated episode of Harmon’s sitcom Community, “G.I. Jeff” (which he also directed) and now he’s written this episode, “A Rickconvenient Mort,” half of which is a parody of the nineties’ environmentalist cartoon, Captain Planet and the Planeteers.
I really didn’t enjoy “G.I. Jeff.” It was a bizarre, confused episode with humor that didn’t work unless you had a fondness for the eighties (and/or early nineties)’ cartoon series,...

G.I. Joe has been enduring a period of relative mainstream dormancy since the release of 2013 movie G.I. Joe: Retaliation. However, Hasbro’s popular toy property—specifically, the Cobra-combating “A Real American Hero” iteration launched in the early 1980s—has serious comeback plans that have just expanded, thanks to a live action television series set for Amazon focused on Lady Jaye.
While the pandemic derailed the intended 2020 release of reboot prequel Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, which is scheduled to hit theaters this October, that film now stands to be complemented by the untitled Lady Jaye live-action series, which Deadline reports that Paramount Television Studios, eOne and Skydance Television are developing for streamer Amazon Prime Video. While details are lacking regarding the plot, the project is being described as a standalone story that connects to the larger G.I. Joe Universe. Indeed, Lady Jaye is clearly part of a major multimedia endeavor for Hasbro,...

Dennis “Denny” O’Neil, best known for writing and editing Batman comic books, died on June 11 of natural causes. He was 81.

Chicago – Who are the voices in our lives that really matter? If you were a cartoon fan in the 1980s and ‘90s then it was Rob Paulsen, the source for Pinky (“Pinky & the Brain”), Yakko (“Animaniacs”) and a myriad of others. Recently Paulsen beat cancer, which threatened his career, and he tells the story in the new book … “Voice Lessons.”
The subtitle of “Voice Lessons” is “How a Couple of Ninja Turtles, Pinky and an Animaniac Saved My Life” (written with Michael Fleeman) and to know Rob Paulsen is to realize his deep appreciation and love behind his creations. But beyond that passion, he also is endeared to the admirers of his work, the millions of children and now grown-ups who continue to embrace his characters and the voice behind them. Beating his cancer gave Paulsen a new purpose in his life, to use his gifts “…on the biggest scale I can.

In my mind, the original 1986 Transformers: The Movie is the best Transformers movie ever made. I don’t care what anyone says. I loved that film, even though they killed off half of my favorite characters within the first 30 minutes. When I was a kid I was lucky enough to see it on the big screen at a special screening for some of the cast and crew members. I’ll never forget that experience. The movie just oozes '80s awesomeness.

Despite being in the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero target demo when I was growing up, I never watched that mid-’80s animated series, and the line of action figures that inspired the cartoon also didn't mean much to me. The commercials hawking them seemed to have such an unflinchingly rigid set of rules guiding how the toys should be played with that the action figures just didn’t seem fun. (It didn't help that the kids my age who played with them were kind of dicks.) I did like the show He-Man, maybe because its characters, and by extension, its associated toys, weren’t thinly veiled, ’80s-style Cold War propaganda; they were just absurdly muscle-bound fantasy characters with a merchandise line that allowed fans to embrace the silliness inherent in names like Ram Man and Stinkor; G.I. Joe fans always seemed a little too cool for that kind of playroom action,...

Before you see "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" in theaters this weekend, there's a little something you should know about the beloved 1980s G.I. Joe cartoon. Sure, it's about an elite force of American soldiers taking on the evil terrorism of Cobra. But for the most part, the show was next level crazy. The only show that could potentially out-crazy "G.I. For a show ostensibly about real American heroes, "G.I. Joe" brought the bonkers. Narrowing the series' craziest episodes down was a hard task (almost as hard as the genetic pillaging Cobra undertook to create their master, Serpentor). Here are the five craziest episodes of "G.I. If you were a fan of the classic G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero series in its first run, before it became horrible and nothing but a toy generator, then you might be pleased to know that you can find similar animation satisfaction in the classic series Sky Commanders. Joe with two opposing sides battling it out, this time for control of a new continent spawned by a fantastical element that could give whoever controls it untold power. With the expert voice work of Robert Ridgely and Bernard Erhard, Sky Commanders is a great G.I. Joe substitute.

Though it’s nice to look back on nostalgia and find that your memories of a classic cartoon stand up to the test of time and your (hopefully) more mature palette, the majority of the classic G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero cartoons fail to do so. Unlike the Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles which had constant reinventions every few years, G.I. Joe fell largely into the background for many years and ceased to be a popular franchise with new generations; so much so that even the recent live-action movie failed to spur new interest. These circumstances make the overall successful storytelling and characterizations of G.I. Joe: Renegades, the first truly great and (so far) consistent G.I. Joe cartoon, all the more pleasing.

With G.I. Joe: Retaliation getting pushed back until next March, fans are trying to find other ways to satisfy their hunger for the franchise. Shout Factory is doing their very best to comply with the release of not one but two animated collections of different G.I. Joe TV shows. We get something old and something newer.
G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero - Series 2, Season 2 collects all 20 episodes of this 1991 show on three discs. This was not produced by Sunbow, but Dic and it shows in the animation quality. Also to be noted is the change in voice cast that took place. It also focuses on new characters for the most part. A few original characters are left including General Hawk, Duke, Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes, Cobra Commander, and Destro.
Gone is the familiar "A Real American Hero" theme song, which is replaced by one that mentions America once instead of several times.
