Taking Out the Trash
Sorting Refuse at Incinerating Plant, New York City (1903)
This Edison film lives up to its title as it basically shows people working at an incinerating plant where they are getting rid of trash. I often watch these early films and wander if cameramen just walked around town and would stop and shoot anything they felt they could sell to the public. This film really doesn't have anything special as it runs just under two minutes and we see people working. This here was obviously trying to follow in the footsteps of the Lumiere Brothers who of course captured everyday life. The problem here is that the camera is so far back from the action that you have to wonder if the camera guy just didn't like the smell and didn't want to get any closer.
