One of the best PBS shows!
Keyan-the-Eagle14423 March 2018
With the childhood joy of having read the Berenstain Bears and learning all sorts of lessons from the always-optimistic Bear family, and not having seen very much of the old 1980s series, this came into my life. This, along with Reading Rainbow, Sesame Street, Wishbone, Arthur, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, to name some, was entertaining. With the help of our northern neighbors in Canada, this show made quite an impact, even if it only lasted a few seasons. Now I watch it on YouTube and it hasn't lost its appeal. It's cute, entertaining, funny, touching, sweet, and most of all: educational! Anyone who wants to watch it, go where I go, and see it on YouTube, as I said!

A Wonderful Show
tanquant21 January 2003
Growing up in the 80's I loved to look at The Berenstain Bears on Saturday mornings. It's such a cute and priceless cartoon. Now PBS is airing the Berenstain Bears weekday mornings at 7:00 eastern time. It's perfect for children to watch before they go to school and for adults who remember this from childhood as I do.

Important Family Show
lawlorwalter11 August 2018
This is a very important family show because in recent years so many shows are just a wasteland of pointless silly entertainment with no real point other than a very thin tacked on message tacked on in a klutzy. This show has real morals and lessons taught in an entertaining and non high handed way. Kids like the show but also learn from it and that I like. More shows should be like this.

NO
All I remember from this show is being terrified by the awful character designs. I don't care about anything else. Maybe this show is great, I don't know, but this show will always be associated with fear in my mind. Terrible voice acting and animation aren't appealing to children - end of story.

Great

Warning: Spoilers
The Berenstain Bears have been around since 1962 with the publication of The Big Honey Hunt. The Big Honey Hunt spawned innumerable sequels such as Forget Their Manners, Get The Gimmies, and Go To Camp. The stories are very cute and are designed to reach the eyes, ears, and hearts of youngsters everywhere. This series is essentially a remake of the 1985 series but books that were adapted for that show (Forget Their Manners, Learn About Strangers, In The Dark, Too Much Birthday, The Truth, Messy Room, Get Stage Fright) haven't gotten any episodes here. These are more like the books with a few twists such as in the episode Week At Grandma's, we get to see what goes on with Mama and Papa during their trip, and in Go To The Doctor Sister helps another cub overcome her fear of the doctor. I have to wonder what Mama and Papa's names were before they became parents, I know Brother was originally called Small Bear and only became Brother when Sister came about later on. In addition to Mama, Papa, and the cubs there are also Gran and Gramps, Cousin Fred, Lizzie, Too Tall, Queenie, Farmer Ben, etc. Another thing I like is that this show takes on books that were available for the old series but just ignored (The Sitter, Go To The Doctor, Moving Day, Visit The Dentist, The Bad Habit, Too Much Junk Food, Too Much TV, Go To Camp, Week At Grandma's, and Trouble At School) and books that came out after the old show (Bad Dream, Double Dare, Get The Gimmies, The In-Crowd, Too Much Vacation, Trick Or Treat, Slumber Party, Trouble With Pets, Don't Pollute, Four Seasons, Trouble With Grownups, Too Much Pressure, Big Red Kite, Perfect Fishing Spot, Visit Fun Park, Nerdy Nephew, Female Fullback, Baby Chipmunk, Excuse Note, Giant Mall, Jump Rope Contest, Wishing Star, New Neighbours, Giddy Grandma, Birthday Boy, Lost In A Cave, Summer Job, Talent Show, Green Eyed Monster, Count Their Blessings, Go To The Movies, Pick Up And Put Away, Homework Hassle, Get Their Kicks, Lend A Helping Hand, By The Sea, Think Of Those In Need, House Of Mirrors, Catch The Bus, Stinky Milk Mystery, That Stump Must Go, Big Blooper, Haunted Lighthouse, and Papa's Day Surprise).

Good for learning lessons
trapperjfc26 February 2011
This show is not boring at all. It is sensibly written to appeal to younger children (preschool and kindergarten age) and teach them values at the same time. In this age of redundant stupidity in entertainment, parents need a show like this one to help illustrate how fair life should be, and give a firm footing to children, not overwhelm them with glitz, glam and gloss. By keeping plots simple and allowing children to follow along at their level, this show simply teaches children how to be fair, consider other's feelings and have good sportsmanship. These are core values which are not being taught to children at daycare dumps or underfunded public schools. If a parent expects more out of this show for themselves, they should consider re-viewing and actually listening to the plot. The simple storytelling is charming and perfect for 3-6 year olds. As parents, we need to put our children first and our entertainment expectations last.

A good show for all ages not just for kids
tristanmichael9795 August 2022
This is such an amazing show! I've seen every single episode of it and it's awesome! The Berenstain Bears is about a family of four: Mama, Papa, Brother, and Sister who live in a town called Bear Country. Together they learn some valuable life lessons. This is a great show and if you're a parent this is good for your kids and it isn't annoying as some kid shows can be sometimes. I'm a teenager now and sometimes I go back and watch this show because it is so good!

Classic
ThunderKing67 September 2020
This version is better than the original show because its just so much warmer and the colors and animation are pleasant to look at.

Father is funny, reliable and a cool father.

Brother acts cool. He can be kind of a sissy.

Sister is sensitive and she has a nice voice.

Mama is less scary in this version. However, she is a worry wart in some episodes.

Too Tall is a sissy bully. Sometimes he picks on brother other times he hangs with brother

There is no villain in this version. The Show is less about the town and more about The family learning lessons in a more slow and hand held way compared to the original.

Theme song isn't bad and its not iconic either. Its still a fine song to jam to when know one is looking.

Verdict: Enjoyable. Great colours and great episodes.

They're a Lot Like People Only More So
Jace_the_Peanuts_Fan8 February 2024
I watched a lot of The Berenstain Bears on Sprout from when I first came across the channel in 2011 until it rebooted as Universal Kids in 2017, and I still love it to this day! Ironically, I haven't seen as much of it on PBS Kids. I think they stopped playing it before I got into the show. I've read some of the books too and enjoyed them just as much. There are actually 2 different Berenstain Bears shows: the original from 1985 by Hanna Barbera and the 2003 (the same year I was born) reboot by Nelvana. It appears to me that the people from IMDb have confused them for the same show because it says 1985-2004 on this page, and there aren't 2 separate pages for them. I like both incarnations, but I like the reboot the best, mainly because it's the one I'm the most familiar with and the one I've seen the most of, as big of a Hanna Barbera fan as I am. The shows are sensibly written to appeal to younger children and teach them values at the same time, but I have a feeling that it could easily appeal to older children and adults too. The Berenstain Bears could be just another hyperactive, over the top, and annoying preschool show, but it's not.

Both versions are about the Berenstain Bear family, mainly the cubs, going through everyday struggles, which I find relatable and appealing. Like the reboot's theme song says, the bears are a lot like people only more so, and the only difference is they live in a tree. They can be funny at times as well. The struggles include watching too much TV, eating too much junk food, getting bullied, greed, being irresponsible, jealousy, not counting your blessings, having too much homework, and more. Mama and Papa are always ready to help their kids make thoughtful decisions and encourage them to work hard, obey the rules, develop healthy friendships, and find healthy activities to partake in.

A lesson or family value is always learned throughout the episodes. The lessons are ones that everyone should hear, and people often learn some of them too late in life. Thanks to the Berenstain Bears, I didn't learn them too late, and there are a few episodes I find impactful even to this day. For example, there's an episode where the bears go to a grocery store, and Brother and Sister both find toys and treats that they want, but Mama and Papa keep reminding them that they came just to buy groceries. When they finish their shopping, the cubs get toy cats from a bear nearby, giving toy cats away for free. When they get home, their parents give them a lecture and say there's more to life than getting as many treats as you can get your hands on because one should count their blessings and think of those less fortunate. Grizzly Gran and Gramps come to visit, and Brother and Sister say, "What did you bring us?", proving that they didn't learn anything. Papa grounds them and says that's the worst case of the "galloping gimmies" he's ever seen. Gran and Gramps remind Papa that he had an even worse case of the gimmies when he was little: he threw a temper tantrum over a toy truck in a grocery store and embarrassed Gran and Gramps so much that they let him have it, but then he saw a poor family who didn't have much money, and he gave his truck to their cub. Brother and Sister both enjoy that story, and they finally learn their lesson and regret their behavior. Their grandparents start their visit "all over again," step outside, and come back inside. Brother and Sister finally say hello, and the latter says, "If you brought us anything, you can just leave it in the car." Everyone laughs at Sister's comment, and she and Brother donate a couple of their old toys at the end. Ever since I saw that episode for the first time, I've appreciated what I already had, haven't thought of myself 24/7, and fully understood why I couldn't get everything I wanted all the time.

There are other reasons why I like the reboot the best. The animation is smoother, clearer, and more colorful than the original, and the characters' personalities have softened and expanded. Just to name a few examples, Mama is nicer and not as strict as she is in the original, but she's still the main disciplinarian of the family, Sister is more sensitive, and Too Tall is still a bully, but unlike the original series, he can be nice to others at times and has his moments of friendship with Brother.

I highly recommend The Berenstain Bears! If you like the books, you're sure to enjoy the shows too! I don't know what else to say.

Mandela Effect is not real
ThunderKing616 September 2021
It's called people changing things. People do it. There is no "effect".

I preferred the newer treehouse edition. That one was much more warm and cozy to watch. This edition was good because it was a more open world. It just lacked the warmth and pacing that the newer one had. The soundtrack and characters carry a much rigid frequency compared to the newer edition. Don't get me wrong, some things like open world and characters with attitude are phenomenal. Still, since I have a preference, the new edition is better in my opinion.

In conclusion, great show that children today could enjoy.

Am I the only one who remembers these?
sngbrd3931 March 2001
Although I never saw the TV show itself, I saw many videos of many different episodes. I remember best the "I Want It All" song from, well, I don't remember which one. I just remember really liking the song but not being able to see the video a lot. I did have a couple of them, the one about strangers, and another, I think. Well, anyway, this is one of those things from the deep recesses of my childhood that isn't very clear at this time. Anyone else who can give a more complete review, please come forward!

A Simple Cartoon for Simple Minds
General_G10 November 2005
The Berenstain Bears were great books for kid who were learning to read and then the made a nice little cartoon for kids. I have most of the episodes on tape. I bought them at the store about ten years ago and even back then the quality wasn't very good and it was a little hard to understand what they were saying, but the kids still loved them. Some people say that the shows are too addicting and that kids will want to watch TV instead of reading the books, but its nice to get a break every once in awhile. The Berenstien Bears came back in 2003, but it didn't last as long. Good thing PBS shows the reruns. Both shows are great and its a good way to teach little kids.

Really cute

Though I have never seen the TV Show I do enjoy reading the books. I liked Brother Bear. Brother Bear was eight years old and Sister was six years old. Brother had a best friend named Freddy. Sister had a best friend named Lizzy. Papa had a best friend named Farmer Ben. In The Double Dare Brother is asked to steal Too Tall and his friends a watermelon. In The Trouble With Grownups Brother and Sister decide that there Mama and Papa are a little too rough on them. In The Trouble with Money Sister and Brother get jobs but when they have a little too much cash there parents put it in the bank.

Some Where Deep In Bear Country

Warning: Spoilers
When i was younger, i used read the books and watch the series and i loved it. The characters were great and i loved that they used the simplest form of names such as mama, papa, sister and brother. There entertaining and most of the episodes have a moral about them.

What More can i say about the Berenstain Bears, there a classic and i watch the episodes at my pleasure.

They will be there for each other. There just like you and me. The only difference is they live in a tree.

I still own one of the Berenstain Bear Books and i must have read that book so many times. I believe it was one of the television series, when they go exploring in the cave. i think it was called " Lost in A Cave."
