When Mani Ratnam was chalking out the shooting schedule for the Hindi version of Raavan, he got a brainwave. The talented filmmaker already had the lights, camera and dates of actors in place. So it seemed wise to make the Tamil version alongside.to save time and make optimum use of resources available. This worked out well even for actors who feature in both the versions. Aishwarya Rai says, "On the sets, I used to first give my Hindi shot and then the Tamil one."
