The date of release: Saturday, January 14th, 1928, was one day after superstition day (to some), "Friday, the 13th".
A major plot element in this short is the solar eclipse that happens while the gang are in the cemetery. The idea for featuring an eclipse of the sun may have come from the relatively recent, near-total (90%) eclipse seen in Southern California on September 10, 1923. Another Our Gang short in which a solar eclipse played an important part was Little Sinner (1935).
