A major Brazilian movie on sexuality
guisreis9 November 2020
Very good Brazilian drama movie on lust and greed, on sexuality (experiences, homophia, homossexuality, heteronormativity, hidden secrets, mysoginy). While there are among the characters some "girlie" male gay hairstylists, what may give the impression that the film could be shallow and cliché, it is not. It is serious and deep, with well developped characters and issues, well filmed, acted and in good pace. Paulo Castelli particularly has a great performance, Sandra Bréa impacts with her beauty, and João Francisco Garcia's character arc is somewhat predictable but the greatest achievement in the movie. Despite some sex and nudity scenes, it is far from an exploitation or "pornochanchada" (Brazilian softcore genre from 60's to 80's), as they are important for the story and not the contrary: it is not the story that is an excuse for showing sex.
