Plimpton's four plays were filmed in Michigan Stadium 22 August 1971 during half time of a Lions-Colts exhibition game. The temperature was well into the 90's. This was the first time pro teams had ever played in Michigan Stadium. The Lions won the game 23-20 in the closing seconds in front of a crowd of approximately 92,000.
The marching band seen twice near the end was composed of members of the Ann Arbor Huron High School and Ann Arbor Pioneer High School Marching bands. The band members received free Lions tee shirts which they can be seen wearing during the pre-game practice sequence. The two different band uniforms can be seen very briefly during the half time sequence.
