A vintage documentary on Brazilian history with more merits than flaws
guisreis9 October 2020
The film brings important information on 1930 revolution background, the role of São Paulo in Brazilian politics, and Vargas's authoitarian government. It also shows wonderful clips of old movies, both fictional or documentaries, what is nice to put espectator in the mood of the 20's and gives the film itself a vintage silent cinema look. However, both academic explanations and the films chosen not always help to understand what was going on and do not fit each other. Indeed, the beginning is perfect bit the documentary becomes more confusing and tiring as it advances. But is has a quite interesting narrative proposal, a good important content and it is remarkable the bravery of producer/director Sylvio Back, as Brazil was still under military dictatorship.
