Good family film

I watched this film as a 7 year with my parents and 3 siblings and we watched it ovr and over again. We found it extremely entertaining and I have to say this was a great film. I was sad to see a low rating. Also I think it was ahead of its time. There a very few films you can watch over and over and with the family. We still know all the songs and will always cherish this as one of our favourite movies growing up. As adults we can still reminise about the songs and dialogues. I think it definitely worth a watch

Too ambitious for its own good.

Kalyug Aur Ramayan review :

In this modern day version of Ramayan, Manoj Kumar plays God Hanuman who disguises himself as a human called Pawan Putra and meets the Kalyug ka miserable Dasharath Om Prakash troubled by his entire family.

Quite ambitious for the 80s, the film turned in to an unintentional joke as Manoj Kumar makes faces at the camera, Rajiv Goswami tries to "act" the hero while Prem Chopra hams it up as the proverbial Raavan. It is amusing to see bikini clad Huma Khan with half dozen extras trying to seduce Manoj Kumar even as he is covering his face in his trademark style.

Kalyug Aur Ramayan was probably intended to be what Shyam Benegal's fantastic drama Kalyug (1981) did to the epic Mahabharata. But unfortunately, the attempt to modernise Ramayana turns in to a complete farce here. The film only qualifies for the 'Ham scene' segment of Sajid Khan's popular TV show.

The only saving grace of the film is the pretty Madhavi who pitched in a decent act even with all the ham and cheese popping around her. Oof!!

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.
