The show was developed from four short black & white films Paul Fenech starred in and directed in the early 1990s. In 1995, his short "Pizza Man" earned third place at the Tropfest film festival.
Barry Crocker and Paul Bertram both star in the Space Pizza Episode. They had previously starred together as best mates in The Adventures of Barry McKenzie.
Despite the show's popularity and cult status, it has never gotten an official DVD/Home Media release, apart from Series 5. This is likely due to musical licensing issues.

The song that Bobo Gigliotti has on his stereo, "On An Evening In Roma" by Dean Martin, is the same song that features on The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003).
