As a connoisseur of classic fiction, I was both shocked and pleasantly surprised to discover that one of epic horror novelist and poet Edgar Allan Poe’s (“Quoth the Raven, ‘Nevermore’.”) short stories is being adapted for the screen. The first official one-sheet for the film, based on Poe’s story Ligeia, ...

An official one-sheet for Edgar Allan Poe's Ligeia and, as you can see, it's vastly different from the early art we brought to you last November . Still no word on distribution, however. Based on the classic Edgar Allan Poe short story "Ligeia," the film is about a young, successful writer and scholar, Jonathan Merrick, who happens to fall under the spell of the bewitchingly, irresistibly beautiful Ligeia. Ligeia pulls Jonathan into her dark, goth world and takes him away from his fiancée Rowena. Obsession takes over love and even after...

A new movie based on Edgar Allan Poe's "Ligeia" is on its way, craftily titled Edgar Allan Poe's Ligeia. Not going to fool anyone with that title, are they? This is the first we've heard of it in a long while, so there's quite a bit to share. First, some official plot: Successful writer and scholar Jonathan Merrick falls under the spell of the irresistible, bewitchingly beautiful Ligeia. She's fighting a fatal illness and will stop at nothing to defeat death, her one true enemy. She steals other people's souls, and on her quest to immortality she tricks Jonathan into supporting her work, breaking him apart from his fiance Rowena and pulling him into her dark, mysterious world. They settle down in an old manor by the Black Sea where Ligeia's everlasting presence slowly drives Jonathan...

We've been following this one for a while, ever since we posted some stills back in March and now the trailer has finally dropped. It stars Wes Bentley (American Beauty) and while I can say the production design looks great, I'm a little wary of the actors involved.
