'Le Costume Blanc' ('The White Suit') depicts the mishaps of a man who steps into the street wearing his brand-new white suit, and who instantly encounters every conceivable insult to his suit's integrity: a coalman bumps into him, a waiter spills food on him, a painter walks into him.
This movie is meant to be funny, but I cringed. The crude photography does manage to emphasise the stark contrast between the clean white surface of the man's suit and the dirty (mostly black) objects surrounding him, but this effect is lost once the stains begin to accumulate on his suit. Part of the problem is that the first encounter (with the coalman) is the most effective: once the spotless white suit has been sullied, further insults have a diminishing effect.
