I Fetch the Bread was a pretty humorous French short that's on the "Saved from the Flames" DVD collection

Looks like I'm going to be the first one to review this French short from the early 20th century that's on the DVD collection called "Saved from the Flames". The English name that's listed on the disc is called I Fetch the Bread. It depicts two men preparing dinner for their wives (or maybe it's just some female friends) who forgot to get this item so they both end up looking for one. When they do, they then go to various places to drink. You can probably guess what happens after that so I'll just say I found the whole thing highly amusing the ending especially so. So on that note, I Fetch the Bread is definitely worth a look for any silent comedy buff out there.

Pretty ordinary.

This film was included in the three DVD set "Saved From the Flames"--a collection of mostly ephemeral movies that have managed to avoid turning to powder, catching fire or melting--something that usually happened with the nitrate film stock used up through the 1950s.

This comedy is from Pathé Frères of France--an early giant in the film industry. It begins with two men each going to the bakery to fetch a loaf of bread. But, being a comedy, lots of mistakes and hilarity of the sort seen in early comedies ensues--all thanks to a few drinks too many. As for the ending, it's amazingly low-brow even for 1906. All in all, a mildly diverting comedy but nothing more.

Apparently this was filmed on the streets of Paris. Considering there is an absence of people apart from the actors and the long shadows, I assume it was filmed VERY early in the morning.
