A Must Watch Kannada Movie
sdadsasdasdasdasdasd18 October 2011
School Master is classic film starring Uday Kumar, Shivaji Ganeshan. It was the first Kannada film to complete Silver Jubilee Celebration. It's an good example about how good Kannada movies were those time. The story revolves mostly around Producer-cum-Director B.R.Pantulu, who plays the role of School Master and his wife. Uncommon about Balkrishna is that he plays a positive role in the film. Bustling actor Narasimharaju is also there.

Film has some sentimental and emotional moments and laughable moments too. It has some classroom incidents. Film also has some village politics at the start, which continues to influence the school master character throughout the film. The Film teaches life lessons. And the film has lots of reality, unlike compared to other recent movies.

I never cry while watching the movie, but this movie brought tears to me. It's certainly a must watch Kannada movie. You watch this movie with any (high)expectation, you end up liking this film. The film reminds me my Great-Granpa, who was also a school teacher who was similar principles. Shivaji Ganeshan's Character in the film is heart touching.

I watched this movie today, and it's my first review. I thought of giving 9 at the start of movie, but now i know it's worth giving 10 to this movie.

A must watch kannada master piece
satish_barge31 January 2013
I was browsing for some of the greatest movies of SANDLEWOOD and came across this master piece School Master. Released in the year 1958, this is the first ever kannada movie to celebrate Silver Jubilee. The movie was well appreciated across the nation and went on to grab couple of National Awards like All India Certificate of Merit for Third Best Feature film and National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Kannada

Popular Kannada film producer, actor, director and founder of 'Padmini Pictures,' B. R. Panthulu made this movie. Though the original story was in Marathi, written by a famous poet, B. R. Panthulu came up with film versions of this story in various languages. The Cast - B. R. Panthulu, Udaykumar, Sivaji Ganeshan, B. Saroja Devi. Narasimha Raju The Story First part of the movie showcases glorified teacher - student relationship. A simple teacher with high integrity struggles to handle undesirable practices of school managements, and naughty irregular and messed up children. But soon wins the hearts of children and their parents with his methods of teaching and leading by example. On one occasion he forgives a student who steals his Pen and insists him to keep it after getting caught. The master lives with wife and children on bare minimum income, still helps poor students financially. Years pass by, his sons and daughter are married and well settled but he is in abject penury with financial debts beyond his ability to payback. The debts are of daughter's marriage dowry, sons college expenses and his unquestionable generosity to help students. So his only house is under mortgage. His sons stay away from all this buckling under pressure from their wives and in-laws. The later part of the movie gets more emotional with the old teacher and his wife, asked to live separated, in their daughter and sons house respectively. Finally the house is on auction and in sudden turn of events, the same student who stole the pen years ago, who is a Police Officer now, buys the home and surprises the old master offering him the house back. With happy tears in every one's eyes movies goes 'shubam'. Songs: Few songs in the movie like Athi madura, Ellaru nammavare are very melodious and will be forever. Timing of the songs in the story are very apt too.
