A witty Australian drama that follows the trials and tribulations of the Acadia Waters Council. Created by award-winning writer Geoffrey Atherden, this eight part series focuses on the local councillors as they plot and scheme their way through a year of drama and intrigue.
The Arcadia Waters council chambers building is actually the old Concord Council building in Sydney, NSW. Concord Council had been amalgamated with Drummoyne and other nearby councils to form the Canada Bay Council, leaving the former Concord Council Chambers empty, and a great set for the show. The Chambers have subsequently been demolished and replaced with the Concord Library. Many of the street scenes when they sit on the footpath at outdoor dining areas are also shot in Coincord. Really innovative (esp. with the already mentioned simultaneous plots) and genuinely funny series without any of the bloody canned laughter that is so prevalent in American comedies. Successful enough for us to get a second season on ABC soon, thank god.
