In her PPV in-ring debut, Miss Kitty (Stacy Carter) defeated WWE Women's Champion Ivory (Lisa Moretti), Jacqueline (Jacqueline Moore) and BB (Cathy Dingman) in a Four-Way Evening Gown Match in a Pool to win the title. Chyna had added Kitty to the match on Countdown to Armageddon (1999) (December 6, 1999) and Kitty had objected, saying, "I don't wear underwear!" After winning the match, Kitty cut a promo where she said that "they" made her wear underwear. She stripped off her gown so she was in her bra and panties and jumped into the pool, turning her panties see-through in the back. She then celebrated the win by removing her bra and flashing her breasts, making this the first example of intentional nudity on a PPV in the U.S. WWF official Sgt. Slaughter (Robert Remus) covered her breasts with a towel and various referees carried her to the back. She renamed herself the Kat the following night on "Raw" and kept the name until she left in 2001. This got the WWF in trouble with UK television company Sky.
The Undertaker (Mark Calaway) was supposed to return from his hiatus dating back to September, but injured his groin before the event at his home in Texas.
This is the show where Stephanie McMahon turned heel on her father (Vince McMahon) and sided with Triple H (Paul Levesque), essentially laying the groundwork for everything that has happened since.
This was WWE's first PPV to use the title "Armageddon." WWF Armageddon (2000) would be the last one when the company was still under the "World Wrestling Federation" name. Because of the 9/11 attacks, the December 2001 PPV would be renamed WWF Vengeance (2001), and the renamed WWE would resume using the "Armageddon" name in 2002, abandoning it after 2008.
